Here is a rare and desirable car that comes with a story. This
is a real 1963 Impala SS 409 4-speed convertible. It is an original
red / red car with its numbers-matching motor, along with factory
power steering and power brakes. This great ride was one man's
pride and joy until 1970, when an upcoming divorce threatened to
take it from him. He could not bear the thought of being separated
from his beloved ride, so he took it apart. Completely. And that's
how things have remained for the last 47 years.
This is obviously a full-scale project but well worth the effort.
We are talking about a real SS 409 4-speed convertible. These cars
are approaching $100k in excellent condition; that leaves a lot of
budget for restoration. The body has some localized rust spots and
has never been repainted. The cowl tag is in place and indicates
paint code 922 (Ember Red) along with trim code 879 (red buckets,
SS convertible). The VIN tag is also in place, never removed. There
are boxes of original trim, moldings, emblems, lenses, etc. Same
with the bumpers, grille, and wheel covers. A few extra body panels
are also included.
The numbers-matching 409 cubic inch engine has never been rebuilt
but has obviously been disassembled. The matching VIN stamp and QC
suffix code (340 hp 4-speed) are present and easy to read. The
engine is complete with cylinder heads, crankshaft, rods / pistons,
oil pan, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, water pump,
accessories, brackets, and more. There is also the Rochester
4-barrel carburetor along with the factory chrome air cleaner and
valve covers. The original 4-speed transmission appears to have
been "borrowed" but a replacement is included. Note the original
409 radiator with its sloped tank, along with the power brakes and
power steering.
The original red SS interior is all there. The bucket seats are
present along with the center console and shifter plate. So are the
door panels and all instruments and controls. The original carpet
was discarded but an original GM replacement set is included. The
original white top is well worn but the frame is in good shape.
Also this car includes a clear WI title, issued in 1966!
This is a serious project but represents a unique opportunity to
own a rare numbers-matching 409 4-speed convertible. It's the
genuine article from a preferred year, in desirable red / red with
nice power options. It is complete along with some new and extra
parts. This Impala has sat around long enough; it's time for
someone to put this valuable machine back on the road.
