The Model -When the Firebird was born in 1967, it was another peg
in the success of John Z. Delorean. It was also another example of
the excitement that was being produced by Pontiac. As a new series
of motorsports was coming of age, several USA car makers produced
vehicles that were aimed specifically at this market with Pontiac
coming right out and saying it, Trans-Am. Customers could order any
color combination they wanted, as long as it was Cameo Ivory with
Blue stripes and a beautiful Blue vinyl interior. The base Trans-Am
package included the 366 HP Ram Air III version of the 400 cid V8,
which was plenty fast for those who were looking for real
excitement and a whole lot more respect on the street. No mistaking
a Trans-Am with its distinctive colors, functioning dual scoops on
the hood, air inlets on both front fenders and an aerodynamically
tested rear deck spoiler meant these cars not only looked the part,
they played it too. In all, only 689 Trans-Am coupes were produced,
with the base price coming in at $3,556, on top of which one could
add on a few extras. A legend was born and only a few were able to
experience these beasts when they were new.
The Car - A few years back this gorgeous example of a Trans-Am was
given a full and complete restoration that was so complete that
when judged at the 2012 Pontiac-Oakland Club's National Convention,
it was awarded the Concours Gold Award scoring 384 of 400 points.
With its heritage confirmed through PHS documentation, included
with the car, this is not only a piece of art, it will be a wise
investment too. Under the hood is the original "YW" coded Ram-Air
III V8 that was completely rebuilt and finished in that distinctive
Pontiac silver-blue hue, looking as fresh as it did the day she
rolled off the assembly line. Taken down to bare sheet-metal, the
body panels are laser-straight and no detail was overlooked,
including removing the subframe and restoring it back to its
original appearance with the proper components. Whenever possible
the original parts were restored or replaced and when needed using
proper date coded items employed. The fit and finish of this entire
car is above factory specs including the Endura front fascia and
even proper T3 headlights. Best of all this is one of just nine
Ram-Air III Trans-Ams produced with factory air-conditioning. If
you are looking for the ultimate in Pontiac collectibles, then we
believe your search will come to an end when you purchase this
fabulous Trans-Am.
