The Model - When the new generation of the Boss 302 was on the
drawing board, the American auto-industry was in a major tailspin.
While other car makers were in Washington D.C. pleading for a
bailout, Ford was busy coming up with an even more potent version
of their production Mustang GT. Rated at 412 HP, the GT was plenty
powerful and had received high marks from the automotive press.
However, when the Boss 302 showed up, it sported 32 more horses and
was hailed as a motoring miracle. Special cylinder heads with
strong alloy were port altered for maximum efficiency. A totally
different intake manifold was developed with runners that looked
like vintage velocity stacks, combined with higher lift cams,
larger valves, and race-spec bearings. Also, the baffled oil pan
was set to hold 8 -quarts of synthetic oil. The blending of this
engine's power to the transmission, rear axle and suspension was
seamless, with acceleration resulting in 0-to-60 times of under 4.4
seconds! More powerful than a Camaro SS, better handling in some
opinions than the Shelby machines, the Boss 302 was the perfect
tribute to the fore-bearer that had been produced to qualify those
machines for Trans-Am competition.
The Car - There was no mistaking the Boss 302 from other
run-of-the-mill Mustangs. Like the original, its unique exterior
dcor set these cars apart, as if the running gear didn't do that.
Produced for just two years, a total of 3,249 Boss 302 Mustangs
were produced for 2012. This example that has barely had break-in
miles put on the clock, is finished in Black with the distinctive
red markings. Fitted with the Recaro Boss 302 leather and suede
bucket seats emblazoned with the car's logo. The rest of the
interior is pretty much down to business with the factory AM-FM-CD
player, climate control and steering wheel fitted with numerous
remote-controls. The engine roars to life with ease, only a few
miles have been put on this car, but the entire engine-drivetrain,
suspension, handling and even the Torsen differential combine to
make this machine a dream to drive. Just 612 Boss 302's received
the Black-Red treatment, which includes the red anodized alloy
wheels which still wears the factory Pirelli tires.
