This gorgeous 1965 Pontiac GTO-one of 11,311 convertibles produced
in that model year-is equipped with the coveted features that made
the GTO legendary: Tri-Power (the three 2-barrel carburetor setup),
an automatic transmission with a counsel and power steering. The
car presents beautifully in triple black (exterior, interior and
convertible top). The Pontiac GTO is often-times referred to as the
first muscle car and by spending any time around this car, it's
easy to see why. Pontiac's formula for achieving speed was to take
a big-block 389 CI V-8 engine intended for its full-size cars and
stuff it into its lighter-weight intermediate-size Tempest. This
made for outstanding performance based on its favorable
power-to-weight ratio. Although this idea seems simple in concept,
it was done in defiance of General Motors strict policy at that
time that prohibited active involvement in auto racing by any of
its divisions. Under this directive, the Pontiac Tempest was
limited to a maximum engine size of 330 cubic inches. Pontiac
bypassed corporate scrutiny by offering a "GTO" option package that
offered the larger 389 CI engine. The GTO immediately gained
instant street creditability at both the drag strip and the
stoplight grand prix. General Motors soon realized that muscle cars
and the youth culture were good for business and introduced the GTO
as its top-of-the-line intermediate model in 1965. This
triple-black GTO is equipped with a Tri Power 389 CI engine. This
GTO comes with Pontiac Historic Society documentation. Rotisserie
