Conceived as a modern-day heir to his legendary Cobra, the 1999
Shelby Series 1 was the only automobile designed and built entirely
by Carroll Shelby and Shelby American. It featured the best of
modern engineering and aerospace-inspired materials, including a
high-strength all aluminum chassis and a carbon fiber body. It was
powered by a Shelby-modified Oldsmobile twin-cam L47 V-8 engine
derived from the Aurora Northstar engine used in the Indy Racing
League series in the early 2000s. The classic combination of a
large V-8 fitted into a lightweight roadster is how Shelby made his
name; this iteration was a stunningly exotic return to those
roots.
The Series 1 roadster was reportedly capable of accelerating from
0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and offered a top speed of 186 mph.
Thoroughly impressive was its speed, but equally impressive was the
car's handling ability. It is equipped with race-derived suspension
including four-wheel upper and lower independent control arms,
fully adjustable shocks and coil-over springs with Formula 1 style
inboard actuators. The car also features anti-roll bars, a ZF
six-speed manual transmission, and huge power-assisted brakes to
help reign in all the power. This was a true supercar for the new
millennium.
This immaculate example is presented in Centennial Silver with gray
interior and the optional stripe delete'. It is nicely appointed
from the factory with power rack & pinion steering, Borla stainless
steel exhaust, factory air conditioning, cruise control, Bose AM/FM
stereo with CD player, and a hideaway convertible top. Meticulously
cared for and always garaged from new, this car shows less than
1,100 actual miles. Included with the car is a box of
documentation, correspondences, reciepts, and articles.
