Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this very clean, 1962
International Scout 80 4X4 for consideration. The Scout 80 is the
original Scout beginning production in 1960 and succeeded by the
Scout 800 in 1965. The original Scout 80 are identifiable by
removable sliding side windows available through early 1962, a
fold-down windshield, vacuum windshield wipers mounted to the top
on the windshield and an IH logo in the central of the grille. The
Scout 80 is powered by a extremely reliable and somewhat primitive
152 four-cylinder engine, 3 speed manual transmission and
Internationals rock solid 4 wheel drive system The only other
4-wheel drive recreational vehicle offered at that time was a Jeep.
1962 was the second model year Scouts were offered. The Scout are
known for their ability to go anywhere and have high durability.
They are a key part of automotive history as they are considered
the first SUV.
This Scout is a rare find indeed. Just out of a very private Scout
collection, the truck is a low mile example that has been restored
approximately 15 years ago and has been kept in clean, dry storage
since with limited use on private property and a few parade events.
The truck is painted in classic red with white removable hardtop.
This Scout 80 remains completely stock with the exception of a
Panasonic stereo. The 152 CID 4 cylinder engine runs great with
proven reliability and the Scout drives and operates as it did in
1962. Highlights include: bench seat, locking front hubs, high and
low transfer case, restored interior with excellent original
gauges, all knobs present and well finished painted dash and other
surfaces; fully restored frame and underside with a rock solid core
structure, new exhaust and brake lines, new shocks and a highly
detailed engine compartment. The 32106 miles on the odometer are
said to be original and this truck rides on classic steel wheels
with original hub caps and the tires have massive amounts of
tread.
Classic 4X4's have become very popular as of late and first
generation Scouts are highly sought after around the glove. Their
classic Americana design, utility and go anywhere attitude keep
them on the "A" list of collectors and 4X4 enthusiasts alike.
