Vehicle Description
For sale in our Houston showroom is a first model year, 2003
Chevrolet SSR. Chevrolet went with a retro design for the Super
Sport Roadster. They styled the vehicle like a truck from the 1950s
with an unmistakable rounded hood and bulging fenders. Its
body-on-frame architecture comes courtesy of the GMT370
(TrailBlazer/Envoy XL) hydroformed-steel platform, which is
shortened 13 inches yet retains its stock width and track. Related
hardware includes a live axle out back, independent suspension up
front, and four-wheel disc brakes. The steel body panels are all
new and pay obvious homage to the highly sought late-'40s/
early-'50s Chevy pickup. Although, something a truck from the 1950s
didn't offer is the beautifully engineered power folding metal top.
With the touch of a button you can go from hard top to no top in
just a few seconds. Another option that wasn't available in the
1950s is the LM4 Vortec V8 under the hood. The stock LM4 pushes out
300 horses and is an all-aluminum 5.3-liter Vortec. The exterior of
this one is coated in a bright red while the interior offers black
leather. With just 29,000 miles, this SSR still smells new. This
SSR is a combination of sorts; a modern classic sports car and
stylish truck with a drop top. As unique as this car is, we feel as
if it makes for a great investment. If you crave power, smoothness,
and dandy exhaust-pipe music, it's hard to beat a GM Gen-III V-8.
Chevy claims 0-60 times in the mid-seven-second range, confirmed by
an informal stopwatch; top speed is electronically limited to 125
mph (also confirmed). Options include: AC, power top, power
steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks, remote entry,
AM/FM/CD, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, and passenger/driver
airbag. To view the vehicle in greater detail, including an HD
