of the Porsche brand. Few other automobiles in the world can look
back on such a long tradition and with such genuine continuity as
the Porsche 911. It debuted at the IAA International Automotive
Show in September 1963 and today it is still considered the
quintessential sports car. The 911 is also the central point of
reference for all other Porsche series. Production began in
September 1964, with the first 911s marketed to the US in February
1965 with a price tag of $6,500. More than 820,000 Porsche 911s
have been built, making it one of the most successful sports cars
in the world. Like no other vehicle, the 911 reconciles apparent
contradictions such as sportiness and everyday practicality,
tradition and innovation, exclusivity and social acceptance, design
and functionality. Ferry Porsche best described its unique
qualities: "The 911 is the only car you could drive on an African
safari or at Le Mans, to the theater or through New York City
traffic." The fourth generation of the 911 was referred to as the
993 and was manufactured and sold between late 1993 and early 1998,
replacing the 964. It was the last of the air-cooled Porsches. The
993 generation of the 911 is often referred to as the best and most
desirable of the 911 series, not only because of its beauty, but
also because its performance is very good, even by modern
standards. The book "Porsche 993 - Essential Companion" refers to
the 993 as the "King of Porsche," and it is generally acknowledged
as "The purists' Holy Grail." The 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S coupe
presented is powered by a 3.6 L H-6 motor that produces 282
horsepower. It is rear wheel drive and is coupled to a 6-speed
manual transmission with overdrive. It has recently received its
major service and is presented with a clean CarFax report. There
are only 79,000 actual miles showing on the odometer and it rides
on 18" wheels with Technology rims. This stunning 1997 Porsche
Carrera is finished in Metallic Black with Savanna Beige leather
interior. It is fitted with the optional 490 Hi-Fi Sound Package
with ten speakers and the 159 Motor Sound Package. It also the
optional power seat package. Loaded and in exceptional, well
maintained condition, this is a desirable example of an
appreciating 1997 911.
