For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS in Huntington Beach, California

Vehicle Description

General

This car is a restored 1968 Chevrolet ?SS396? El Camino. This is a real ?SS396? with a 1-38 vin number. Only 5190 of these were built. This is a California car, build in Fremont CA. All numbers match (VIN, Chassis #, Engine Block-L35) except for the transmission. THis car was originally equipped with a manual transmission, but was converted to a Turbo 400 Automatic sometime in the past.

Mechanicals

The previous owner(s) did most of the mechanical modifications and upgrades. This includes rebuilding the front end, adding a ? race cam, high rise Holley manifold, HEI, and Holley dual feed carburetor. The car is mechanically sound, runs and drives well. The car has non-power drum brakes all around. Exhaust system was upgraded with turbo flow mufflers. It also has a new battery and alternator.

Body restoration

The body restoration was pretty extensive. It was not a frame off restoration but close. The body was stripped to bare metal (sanded, sandblasted or chemically stripped).  All rust areas either cut out and patches welded in place or chemically treated. PPG PolyPrime used as a primer throughout, 2 stage finish, 2 coats of base coat with 3 coats of clear. All if this was color sanded and polished. During the restoration process there was no evidence of any collision or frame damage, A new vinyl top was added as well.

Cosmetic restoration.

I have receipts for all the parts and material used on the El Camino which totals in excess of $21K. It runs well, restored well and looks great. The paint and body work was done with great care however once you put metallic paint and clear coat on the body, any shortcomings come to the surface. There are some small dings that were missed that you can see if you look just right at the body. Most people wouldn?t notice but some would. But I notice and I think the buyer should be made aware as well.

Selling my dream car for a more comfortable daily driver, which is needed since I will be starting college within the next year.
