more information. Los Angeles Broadcasting Pioneer Art Astor was a
man known for many things. A dedicated businessman, loving father
and grandfather and first rate soldier, Art was also known for his
incredible devotion to the automobile. Russo and Steele is proud to
present in Monterey, California the last remaining automobiles in
Art Astor's legendary collection. The Devotion Collection features
the cars truly closest to Art's heart. These fourteen remaining
offerings are vehicles that Art felt so passionately about that he
kept them the closest to him, through the end of his life and
include prime examples of Pre and Post War American Classics,
American Luxury Cars and European Sports Cars. The striking 1953
Packard Caribbean Custom Convertible was based on the Pan American
show car and did not appear until mid-year. it was priced at an
impressive $5210. Only 750 left dealer showrooms. It was powered by
an 327 cubic inch I-8 motor that produced 180 horsepower. This
example has been restored to a high standard and presents well. The
yellow paint is impressive and is in excellent condition with just
minor swirls noted. The red leather interior is in good order and
the dash plastic is not scratched or chipped. It is fitted with a
two-speed automatic transmission and optional radio. It has chrome
plated wire wheels and enlarged wheel openings with a flared lip.
It has a full-width front scoop. An impressive car that was the
height of luxury in the era.
