name originally applied to 250 GT California Spider and the 365
California, the 2+2 hardtop convertible Ferrari California broke
cover at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and ushered in a number of
firsts at Ferrari. The very first production car from Ferrari to
feature a folding metal roof design, the California also took pride
of place as the first front-engine Ferrari powered by a V-8 engine
and the inaugural Ferrari model equipped with a seven-speed,
dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Manual-shifting capability ensured
an engaging driving experience to match the California's obvious
beauty. Clothed in sculpted bodywork designed by renowned Ferrari
coach building partner Pininfarina, the California's long-hood,
short-deck proportions and sleek design made it the most
aerodynamically efficient Ferrari model ever produced. Using a
scale model, the California's aerodynamics were perfected during
over 1,000 hours of wind-tunnel testing, resulting in a drag
coefficient of just 0.32 with the hard top raised. As found on the
other models in the Ferrari model range, the California is equipped
with race-bred ceramic brake discs as standard equipment, which
improve in their effectiveness and pedal feel as temperatures
increase with use on the road. As confirmed by the multitude of
published road tests, the California delivers impressively short
stopping distances in both wet and dry conditions, as well as under
hard use at the track. Standard 19-inch wheels are available in a
number of styles, and optional brake-caliper colors include
aluminum, red or yellow at extra cost.
