For 1970 the Chevrolet Chevelle SS was distinguished by the factory
with the model's blacked-out grille, wheelwell moldings, black rear
bumper insert, chromed five-spoke SS wheels with Goodyear F70-14
tires, rectangular dual exhaust outlets, and the famous SS badging.
Sporting what is reported as the correct 350 horsepower version of
Chevrolet's renowned big-block 396 cubic inch Turbo-Jet V-8, this
beautiful machine has been treated to a "show-quality" ground-up
restoration completed according to the accompanying original
factory build sheet.
The defining component nestles under the domed hood, a
Tonawanda-built powerplant that generates 415 pound feet of torque
through General Motors' heavy-duty Turbo-Hydramatic 400
transmission to a 3.31:1 rear end. Power brakes with front discs,
and Special Performance front and rear suspension are also part of
the desirable SS package, in this case complemented with power
steering, and dual side view mirrors. The Chevelle SS is finished
in code 48 Forest Green paint with Black SS stripes and a matching
Dark Green interior which is nicely enhanced with a center console,
bucket sets, SS gauges, AM/FM factory radio, and Soft-Ray tinted
glass. This is a very attractive and meticulously presented
combination that boasts the Super Sport performance package in the
way the factory intended.
