The Ford Thunderbird was produced from 1955 to 2005 with production
spanning across eleven generations. This 1957 model is part of the
Thunderbird's first generation which developed the new market
segment known as the personal luxury car. It was built on January
29th, 1957 at 11:08 pm and sold to Sexton Ford in Moline, Illinois.
The owner who originally purchased the vehicle utilized it as a
daily driver for many years. He began executing a full frame-off
restoration in 1980, yet due to his passing he was never able to
fully complete the work despite the fact that he had purchased all
necessary parts. The new owners prepared to have the process
finished, and it was completed in the Spring of 2004 by CASCO Auto
Parts of Coshockton, Ohio. Details of the entire process are
available upon request, as well as all repair/parts receipts and a
copy of the factory invoice.
During the completion of this '57 Thunderbird's restoration, the
car received a 3-speed transmission out of a 1956 Thunderbird to
replace the Werner T10 4-speed transmission that had been installed
before ownership of the car was transferred. Other highlights of
this car's upgrades include the installation of a dual point
Mallory distributor and breather caps on the valve covers.
Additionally, the blow-by tube was removed and an EPA approved
carburetor adapter plate was installed. An electric wiper motor was
installed which eliminated the vacuum operated motor, as well as a
better radio (however, the original is still available). It also
comes with seat belts, radial tires, and a Hi-Capacity 4-core
radiator to remedy inherent overheating issues common to classic
Thunderbirds. The engine was completely torn down and gone through.
CASCO reinstalled the original cam shaft and lifters to replace the
3/4 street cam that was in it at that time. Minor parts were
replaced and the engine was tested prior to being reinstalled.
This 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible has been meticulously
maintained and always properly stored in climate controlled garage
that does not get below 40 degrees in winter. As of 1999, the car
has never been wet either by rain or washing. It is only driven to
car shows and an occasional drive on sunny weekends to properly
exercise the seals, brakes, oil circulation, and more. The oil is
changed every spring and the antifreeze is changed every other
year. Also, the battery is removed and stored indoors every fall.
There are some minor physical imperfections, as can be expected,
however don't let this detail fool you - this car is an excellent
vehicle that is perfectly suited for anyone who enjoys the rich
heritage of classic Thunderbirds!
