Vehicle Description
Conceived as a simple, cheap, easy to produce family car, the
Volkswagen Kfer translated from German into People's Car named
Beetle. The car went on to be extremely successful all over the
world and "Volkswagen Culture" defined generations of Americans. In
July 2003, the last Beetle rolled off the production line in
Mexico. Over 21 million units were produced and the little Beetle
came in fourth place in the worldwide "car of the century"
competition in 1999.
Our 1956 Beetle is one of the last years to feature the rare and
distinctive "Oval" rear window. Just five years of production
featured this style before the larger rear window was implemented.
According to the owner, a restoration was completed in 2000 and
there are less than 12k miles on the new engine. That engine is a
1776 cc 4-cylinder with dual carburetors blowing through custom
performance exhaust that really accents that classic air cooled
sound. A four speed manual seems to shift smoothly and has a good
feeling clutch. With a unique blue color and clean interior with
black leather seats, this beetle is a looker. Decent paint quality,
good chrome, aftermarket wood steering wheel, and aftermarket 15in
chrome wheels are all hallmarks of this example. The engine bay is
clean and the newer engine looks very sharp. New electric 12v
ignition means this Beetle is also more reliable. A unique head
turner, this Beetle is a 51 year old piece of rolling history.
