Porsche 911 GT3RS The introduction of the GT3 model in 1999 was an
instant success with heritage linked back to the 1973 911 RS. The
Porsche 911 GT3 was the perfect car for the track enthusiast that
wanted to drive his race car to the track. It helped bridge the gap
between street car and race car allowing the average enthusiast to
be able to experience race car lap times with street car
drivability. The first GT3RS came out in 2003 as a more powerful
and hardcore track model of the 996 model GT3. The base GT3 was
powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six rated at 381 horsepower, while the
RS model received a power bump to 415 horsepower. From its
introduction to now, the Porsche 911 GT3RS has always been the
hardcore model motorsport fans want to own. With the introduction
of the 991-generation GT3 in 2013, it was only a matter of time
before the released the ultimate Porsche track weapon, the GT3RS.
In the same fashion as its predecessors, the 2016 911 GT3 RS
arrives with a bump in power over the standard GT3 packing 500
horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque from a naturally aspirated 4.0
flat six that screams all the way up to its 8800rpm redline. Backed
by one of the fastest shifting transmissions on the market, the
seven-speed PDK allows the GT3RS to set record lap times. Also, a
paddle-neutral feature and a button for limiting pit-lane speed are
standard, and the RS also gets a shorter rear axle ratio than the
standard 911 GT3, which should provide for faster takeoffs. Porsche
also used the latest composite technology to make the GT3RS as
light as possible. The small weight savings from a carbon-fiber
trunk lid, hood, wing and spoiler, as well as an ultrathin
magnesium roof, results in losing 22 pounds of weight when compared
to the standard GT3. Fabric door pulls and no backseat help keep
weight low but, as most owners will drive their cars to the track,
air conditioning, navigation and a radio are still available. The
GT3RS's aggressive body work isn't just for looks as the rear wing
generates 485 pounds of downforce in addition to the 243 pounds of
downforce delivered by the front splitter and vented front fenders,
enhancing grip. Keeping the GT3 RS flat and neutral through the
corners is credited to the adjustable front suspension and
adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars. Also on hand is an
electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and an
innovative rear-steering system. At speeds under 50 mph, the rear
steers opposite to the front, resulting in a tidier line and more
steering angle. Porsche, whose estimates are generally on the
conservative side, claims the 911 GT3 RS's 0-to-60-mph time at 3.1
seconds and quarter-mile is said to consume 11.2 seconds, and top
is achieved when the speedometer reads 193 mph. This 2016 Porsche
911 GT3RS is highly factory optioned with such features as Porsche
Dynamic Lighting System, Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Leather Interior
with Alcantara Accents, Lifting System Front Axle, Sport Chrono
Package, Navigation, Satin Black Wheels and much more. All these
options added up over $40,000 over the base MSRP. This car has been
meticulously cared for and has only traveled 700 miles since new.
