This car was purchased and driven to Illinois in 1982 with original 72,478 miles on the odometer.
Current mileage is 78,943.
Engine upgraded to highly desirable 428 CJ (Cobra Jet). The engine has been meticulously rebuilt, including balancing, blueprinting, gasket match street porting and polish by Mackay Engines. Mackay Engines has been building race engines for 40+ years. Also at this point, the original intake and carburetor was stored and replaced with the much coveted factory Ford 2x4 aluminum intake manifold and dual Holley 4 barrel carburetor setup. This is the same as used on the 427 A/C cobra and the 1967 GT500 Shelby. The engine has less than 2,000 miles on it since the rebuild. Original intake and carburetor will come with the car.
The car was converted in 1985 to a Ford Top Loader 4 Speed manual transmission with Hurst Shifter. The manual transmission was a low mile transmission, it was inspected, and had new synchronizers installed. The original parts were removed and kept, and NOS (New Old Stock) original Ford parts were used in the conversion. Nothing was modified since all Mustangs were set up for either transmission at the factory. Original drive shaft was also used. The car can be converted back to an automatic transmission with a couple hours work. Original C-6 Automatic Transmission comes with the car.
Original Ford 9-inch N-case (nodular iron case) 31-spline "posi" traction differential (3.89 ratio) was installed. (Correct gears for 1968) All air-conditioned Ford cars came with an "open" rear end. The original N-Case 3.00 ratio open rear end comes with the car.
The complete front suspension was replaced with NOS Ford parts.
All original Black Deluxe interior.
The car is painted Black with Shelby Gold Stripes. The paint is in overall good shape but needs spots touched up to be perfect. There is some paint cracking on the roof. (Original color: Acapulco Blue Metallic).
This Georgia car has absolutely no rust. The car has always been garage kept and is flawless on the underside. The owner says the underside is showroom clean. The car has never seen inclement weather or washed with water since 1982. All of the mechanicals have been meticulously maintained and the car drives great.
