This 1942 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet is an excellent, rare example of one of the most iconic American convertibles ever produced. When the United States entered World War II in late 1941, it was quickly determined that a full industrial effort on the part of the nation would be needed on the quest for victory. As a result, on January 1, 1942, all new sales of automobiles to the general public ceased. Production continued until February 1942; however, those vehicles were conscripted by the U.S. government for military use or rationed by the War Production Board for uses deemed necessary for the war effort. When the change to end civilian production occurred, production of luxury and specialty automobiles was the first to end, making this Lincoln one of only 136 cabriolets produced for the 1942 model year.
The Lincoln Continental originated at the hands of Edsel Ford, then president of the Lincoln Motor Company. Working alongside automotive designer Eugene Gregorie, the partnership produced one of the most iconic and elegant automobiles of the 20th century. Frank Lloyd Wright considered the Lincoln Continental Cabriolet “The most beautiful car of all time.” Recognized by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) as a full classic, the 1942 model included redesigned features such as a larger front end with extra chrome accents, a longer body and an improved V12 engine.
According to the consignor, this specific Lincoln Continental Cabriolet is an excellent automobile that has undergone a full restoration and is one of the rare remaining 1942 Continental coupes on the road today. Sold with a registration.
