Vehicle Description
1967 Shelby GT500 For Sale - Fully Documented Factory Wimbledon
White 4 speed LMC is proud to offer this stunning Shelby GT500 for
sale In 1967 Ford unveiled the first redesign to their Mustang. In
response to the release of Chevrolet Camaro, Ford ensured they
could now fit a big block engine into their Pony car. Shelby
quickly jumped at this opportunity and found a way to offer the 428
cu in Police Interceptor engine in a car he would market as the
GT500. The summer of 1967 would see an important decision come down
from Ford and change Shelby production considerably. For 1968
Models the production was moved from Shelby American's Los Angeles
facility to Michigan to be closer to the important Ford supplier
base. This makes the 1967 run of cars special as they were an end
of an era and marked the point of increased Ford control in the
operations of Shelby American. This beautiful 1967 Shelby GT500
rolled out of Shelby's LAX assembly plant April 27 th of 1967 and
was shipped out to a Ford high performance dealer in Roanoke
Virginia June 9, 1967 to be sold new. Delivered from the factory in
the extremely desirable and sought after classic Wimbledon White
exterior, with black deluxe interior, just as it is presented
today. This big block Shelby also featured the desirable factory
inboard mounted headlights. The prerequisite 428 PI engine has the
appropriate Dual Quad carbs under its oval air breather. and Top
Loader 4 speed transmission. Just as was the case with all Shelbys,
this car came very nicely equipped with power steering, power
brakes, fold down rear seat along with the other Shelby upgrades
such as wood rimmed steering wheel, additional gauges mounted below
the dash and roll bar with shoulder harnesses. Tinted glass and
lower rear brake scoops complete what is a nicely equipped GT500.
Unlock the hood pins and gently lift the lightweight fiberglass
hood to reveal the menacing 428 ci with dual Holley 600s, this is
an engine factory rated at 355 HP and 420 Lb/ft of torque. Shelby
folklore states that in reality the engine produced closer to 400
HP, but because of higher insurance premiums they chose to sandbag
the figure. This is a very tidy well detailed engine bay containing
all of the correct markings and labels that one would have expected
to see when the car was new in 1967. All the rubber hoses, linkages
and hardware are fresh and correct. The familiar blue Ford big
block is bright, highly detailed and topped with the famous finned
valve covers that conjure up images of Ford's international racing
success in the period. The underside and chassis of this GT500 live
up to expectations as under close inspection you can see the
factory primer drips hanging off the floor pans. The four speed
transmission is stamped with its ford Vin number and it helps
transmit the 420 foot pounds torque down to the pavement. Moving
inside, the drivers surroundings might be Spartan, but the many go
fast and performance features of Shelby interiors are an absolute
joy to take in. Step across the door threshold with its pretty
Shelby American sill trim and plant yourself in the purposeful
black vinyl bucket. In front of you is the gorgeous small diameter
Shelby wood wheel with aluminum spokes, behind you, the famous half
cage that mounted the advanced shoulder belt system, looking much
more race car than street car. Below the tastefully factory
stitched black dash pad Mr Shelby himself has autographed the glove
box lid. Behind the Hurst shifter the factory shelby gauges are
present and contains helpful Stewart Warner oil pressure and
ammeter gauges. A bright black carpet, clear gauges, shiney
switchgear and a tight headliner round out the pleasing
competition oriented interior. Of course this very rare and
desirable Shelby is fully documented with a complete Marti Report
and it is registered with the Shelby American Automobile Club and
listed on page 1019 and 838 of the current 1967 Shelby registry and
complete with copy of Shelby American dealer invoice. These cars
offered stellar performance in period and at over $4000 they
weren't selling to just anyone. As the color offerings increased,
Wimbledon White became a rare order. Couple that with final year in
California production status and this GT500 ends up being extremely
desirable and collectible piece of Shelby history. Additional
