Coupe Corvette put America back on the sports car map and Corvette
owners in a class by themselves. The Chevrolet Corvette, C2 for 2nd
Generation and also known as the Corvette Sting Ray, is the
American sports car legend produced for the 1963 to 1967 model
years. The radical exterior styling of this Corvette generation was
very purposeful, with peaked fenders, a long nose and a short
bobbed tail that Chevrolet designers bragged about as looks most
stylists would be too timid to even suggest'. Quad headlamps were
hidden - mounted in rotating sections that matched the sharp-edged
front end with the "eyes" closed. Coupe doors were cut into the
roof, which made entry/exit easier in such a low-slung closed car.
For 1966 Chevrolet made only evolutionary changes such as the
frontal appearance was mildly altered with an egg-crate grille
insert to replace the previous horizontal bars, Coupe lost its
roof-mounted extractor vents which had proven inefficient, back up
lights were now standard, knock-off wheels were still available,
headrests were now optional and the interior door pulls are bright
metal. Corvettes also received an emblem in the corner of the hood
for 1966. The "Big Block" Models debuted that year and came with a
special bubble hood to accommodate the stronger horsepower engines
and distinguished the cars from the 327's. Corvette owners who
selected the new $312.85 L72 427 Turbo Jet engine option were
confused by a factory recall in late 65 for an "engine
modification". The application of a new air filter sticker that
read "Turbo Jet 425 HP." - in place of the "Turbo Jet 450 HP"
helped GM's anti-racing faction concerned the 450 horsepower in a
3,300 pound car was way over the top and it worked to calm the
insurance industry. On a dyno, it would still produce the same 450
horses at 6400 RPM however with the new reading at 5600 the engine
produced only 425 horsepower. The car's popularity grew with
another record-busting year of 27,720 units however with only 9,958
Coupes it was the rare model once again. This 1966 Silver Pearl
Corvette Coupe definitely will provide the next owner with the
range of excitement as the Chevrolet advertisement proudly stated,
It's an experience: to look at, to sit in, to drive'! This 1966
Sting Ray was built at the St. Louis plant with a production date
of May 19, 1966 and retailed at $4,295. The Silver Pearl with
Silver interior, as per the trim tag, is a somewhat rare
combination for these Sting Rays'. The Silver Pearl paint is in
good condition . This Corvette has the factory fit of the day and
all the chrome shines bright. Under the hood is an L72 427/425 HP
with the CE stamped showing it was a warranty replacement back in
the day. Inside, the Silver Bucket Seat interior is in very good
condition and provides the driver a wonderful cockpit with a full
array of gauges along with the convenience of an AM/FM Radio. The
undercarriage is clean, black and representative of a really good
driving Corvette. The distinctive stance of the Sting Ray is
unmistakable as it sits on the optional factory cast aluminum
Knock-off Wheels mounted on White-Wall Firestone's. Adding to the
stunning exterior look of this Corvette is the very desirable
Side-Mounted Exhaust System providing the bold, unique look of the
classic Corvette while delivering the impressive roar of the Big
Block Horses. This '66 Sting Ray is turnkey ready to attack any
style of road. A really great Corvette that is meant to be driven
and is certainly ready to provide many years of thrills and
enjoyment. As one Corvette advertisement was titled The Escape
Mechanism'... for sure this 1966 Silver Pearl Sting Ray Coupe with
the Big Block 427/425HP can take you from your everyday world - in
a hurry! Additional Details: 1966 CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY COUPE
