It's a great time to be a Dodge fan! Not only did the 21st century see the return of the brash Charger and top dog Challenger, it also spawned a new generation of MoPar performance dubbed Street & Racing Technology. But even with countless special editions, and Chrysler's varying degrees of Hemi-fueled fury, SRT owners are pretty much used to the fact that someone else is going to show up with virtually the same wheels. Hey, it's not a bad thing that MoPars are so popular. But, then again, part of the appeal of having a special car is the guarantee of it actually being special. Enter this virtually new Challenger R/T Scat Pack. This surly coupe takes all the torque-rich goodness of Dodge's preeminent pavement pounder and throws in an unmatched top-down driving experience courtesy of Drop Top Customs of High Springs, Florida. If you're looking to pick up a modern, hassle-free hot rod that's loaded with tons of cool technology, here's your nouveau classic!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Beginning life at Chrysler's excellent Brampton manufacturing facility, this Challenger has roamed a mere 2,911 miles of clean blacktop under the guidance of just one owner. Pull the car under the lights and you'll find vivid TorRed Clear Coat that's been dressed in appropriate white stripes. Below that lust worthy canvas, original sheetmetal fits precisely, displaying excellent build quality. A close look down that slab-sided fuselage reveals not so much as a dent or ding anywhere. And it all adds up to one slick modern MoPar that wraps world-beating performance in a substantial sense of style!
Challengers have never been safe havens for the meek. And they're almost morally offensive to folks who like their cars as bland as rice cakes. So, as if to bully critics into submission, someone optioned this coupe to just south of audacious using a full array of gnarly aesthetics. At the front of the car, black, chrome-trimmed grilles hang energetic "CHALLENGER R/T" badging between high intensity headlights, projector fog lamps and an aggressive chin spoiler. Behind that spoiler, a tall profile founds diecast Super Bee emblems between a polished fuel filler, Satin Black rockers and a tight convertible top that was retrofitted by Drop Top Customs of High Springs, Florida. That top folds between a familiar Cervini shaker, factory-tint glass and a Satin Black deck spoiler. And beneath that spoiler, a black, "DODGE" branded valance hangs LED split taillights between polished exhaust tips and a tasteful Drop Top Customs badge.
ENGINE
As we all know, Chrysler's Hemi has never been defined by white noise and empty promises. Straight from the factory the company's stalwart 5.7 liter makes an impressive 375 horsepower, and with the help of SRT, its performance goes from wild to insane! Measuring roughly 392 cubic inches, this Challenger's upsized mill utilizes a revised block, aluminum heads and sequential multi-port fuel injection to twist stout 10.9 to 1 compression into 485 horsepower and 475 lb./ft. of torque. Visually, the car's engine compartment comes together just as well as its muscular exterior. Install is exceptionally clean; forgoing the current 'plastic dome of doom' cowl trend in favor of a complete, Cervini-supplied Shaker set up. The big block is coated in a nice shade of traditional orange paint, which perfectly complements TorRed inner fenders. Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System fuel saving technology ensures an excellent mix of spirited performance and thrifty cruising. And, best of all, this is a Hemi that'll fire up in any weather, drive thousands of miles before anyone needs to turn its bolts, and probably lay waste to any old school muscle car that's brave enough to make a charge.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Straight from Auburn Hills, Chrysler's LX platform was a solid foundation that could easily spawn multiple rear and all-wheel drive applications. And when this Challenger's engineering team bolted up a Mercedes S-Class front suspension, threw in a Mercedes E-Class rear suspension and re-christened it "LC", they created the perfect blend of American attitude and European road manners. The brutal Hemi commands eight forward gears through a new generation TorqueFlite automatic, which pairs Chrysler's proven AutoStick technology with wheel mounted paddle shifters. That transmission twists a fresh limited-slip differential, which is equipped with buff 3.90 gears. There's an SRT-tuned Bilstein chassis, supplemented with additional bracing when the car's top was chopped, that's equipped with standard stability and traction control. Variable-ratio, speed-assisted power steering ensures you'll want to do more than make traditional NASCAR lefts. Braking comes courtesy of Brembo 4-piston calipers that, with the help of standard anti-lock software, clamp 14-inch, slotted rotors. Spent gases exit through a newly anointed Active Exhaust system. And at the corners, chromed Sport Muscle blades spin 275/40ZR20 Pirelli P Zeros.
INTERIOR
Take a look inside this Dodge and you'll find a comfortable and stylish cockpit that's ready for long road trips and plenty of summertime fun. At the center of the cabin, brilliant Katzkin seats, which, like the car's stripes, top and shaker, were installed by Florida's Drop Top Customs, feature full power adjustment for the driver. In front of those thrones, a driver-oriented dash seals highly detailed telemetry, dual-zone climate control and Performance Pages technology behind Hectic Mesh trim and a small "CHALLENGER" badge. At the center of that dash, Uconnect infotainment mixes Bluetooth connectivity and satellite-compatible audio with a 506-watt amp, eight Alpine speakers and a large subwoofer. Below that system, a French stitched console founds an attractive shifter between like-new carpet, "DODGE" branded floor mats and metal-trimmed foot pedals. At the sides of that carpet, metal-trimmed door panels hang padded armrests in front of smooth power mirrors, requisite power windows and standard power door locks. In front of the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel spins factory cruise control and redundant audio controls around a power tilt and telescoping column. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a high dollar muscle car are present and accounted for including: Remote Start, ParkSense, ParkView, Enter-N-Go keyless entry and a Sentry Key theft deterrent system.
