Vehicle Description

1974 BMW 2002tii Original California BMW- Round tail conversion with pinch bumpers 2.0L M10 fuel-injected four-cylinder engine (130 hp) Getragfive-speed manual transmission (replaced stock four-speed manual) tii suffix short for "touring international, injected" Straight frame, accident-free car Nakamichi AM/FM stereo with CD player but no speakers Polaris Silver exterior and supple black interior Hand-crank metal sunroof Wire rear window defroster Locking gas cap Exotic Nardi steering wheel BMW floor mats with logo MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to announce another cult classic from the seventies, an exquisite 1974 BMW 2002tii. Yes, a 1974, not a 1968-1973. Car's previous owner purchased this awesome Bimmer out of California in 2005. Since then it has been stored during winters; only driven during good weather. The owner prior to the previous one restored the car, converting it to a "roundie." Frame is straight and previous owner reports no accidents that they were aware of. Also known as an E10, this 2002tii was the epitome of performance available at the time with the forward-thinking design of Kugelfischer fuel injection. The market for these cars has started to move upward drastically in just the last year, this is a fleeting opportunity to obtain a relatively un-touched version before they get out of reach. This example, with41,096 miles, has a Polaris Silver exterior that really makes this 2002 stand out. (The paint has minor spots and the occasional scratch on it and there's a small dent in the roof just forward of the metal sunroof.) There are two driving lights mounted over the front bumper and inboard of the headlights and all four lenses are clear and intact. The front bumper is mostly in great shape but has a small blemish and a chrome bubble in front of the driver's headlight. Car has a Nakamichi AM/FM stereo with CD player but there are no speakers. Radio aerial is in its usual place, attached to the driver's side A-pillar. The back bumper has a half-dollar sized blemish and another one on the driver's side. The engine bay is extremely clean, however, the windshield washer is inoperable. This 2002 sports BMW's standard lace alloy wheels with center caps riding within Goodyear Eagle Ventura tires with plenty of tread. Previous owner reports that the car runs very well, accelerates quickly and handles well and reportedly had an engine rebuild prior to purchase, but no receipts on hand. Open the driver's door and you're greeted by rich, black upholstery and black carpeting and BMW floormats on the inside. There are a pair of bucket seats for the front passengers and a bench seat for those in back. The seats are in great shape and show minimal wear. Package shelf behind the rear seat is also in good shape. Contrasting light-colored headliner and silver framed dome light are in outstanding condition. The standard four-speed manual transmission was upgraded to a Getrag five-speed unit. The aforementioned sunroof opens by hand. There's a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel to grip and full instrumentation - speedometer, tachometer, fuel and temperature gauges - although the speedometer may need a new cable. The dashboard has a small crack just to the right of the instrument binnacle. All windows, rearview and sideview mirrors are clear and intact. Vent windows and driver's side glass open. Helmut Werner Bnsch, BMW's director of product planning, and Alex von Falkenhausen, designer of the M10 engine, each had a two-liter engine installed in a 1600-2 for their respective personal uses. When they realized they both made the same modification to their cars, they prepared a joint proposal to BMW's board to manufacture a two-liter version of the 1600-2. At the same time, American importer Max Hoffmanasked BMW for a sporting version of the 02 series that could be sold in the United States. The 2.0engine was sold in two states of tune: the base single-carburetor produced 101hp and the dual-carburetor high compression version, producing 119hp. The 2002tii used the fuel-injected (130hp) engine from the 2000tii, which resulted in a top speed of 115mph. The tii suffix is short for "touring international, injected." Examples of competitor vehicles to the BMW 2002tii include the Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce, the Datsun 240Z/260Z and possibly the Chevrolet Cosworth Vega and Ford Mustang II, which had been newly downsized for 1974. In 2016, BMW will celebrate its 100th anniversary. BMW has a long successful history both in Europe and the United States. This is an opportunity for you to acquire a part of that history that made BMW a household name in America!
