With Chevrolet rolling out a brand-new pony car in 1967, GM didn’t want it to be overshadowed by competition within the brand. Additionally, the Chevelle was fresh off a redesign from 1966, so Chevrolet engineers didn’t want to mess with a good thing. All that was needed were some new styling tweaks, such as wraparound taillights and a new curved grille in the front. The trim-level offerings remained the same as the previous year, with the 396 SS remaining as a stand-alone model. Buyers were still offered a choice of three different engines on the 396 SS, putting out 325, 350 or 375hp, although the 375hp wasn’t offered until late in the model year.
This 1967 Chevelle SS 396 coupe is equipped with its matching-numbers engine that produces 350hp and is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. The car has undergone a highly detailed restoration to return it to factory condition. It has been refinished in its original triple-black combination, capped off with Rally wheels wrapped in red line tires. This is a true 138 VIN Chevelle SS 396 in one of the rarest and most desirable color combinations made.
