Offered for sale at NO RESERVE, this 1979 MGB is just as much about community and collaboration as it is a fine example of an enjoyable roadster. In 2007, this MG was donated to the Good News Garage organization to help further its mission to provide vehicles and transportation to low-income families. To date, Good News Garage has provided more than 4,400 vehicles to families in need throughout New England. At the time of donation, this MG was in need of serious restoration. Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car Magazine partnered with GNG to undertake this 'Project with a Heart.' To complete the restoration, Hemmings worked with partners and volunteers to bring the beauty back to its former glory. Restoration of the MG required hundreds of volunteer work hours and thousands of dollars in parts and repairs. The completed work list includes having the body stripped to bare metal with all the rust cut out and new metal welded in. Floors and all fenders were replaced with British Motoring Heritage Trust panels. The body was primed and painted with the PPG Deltron basecoat/clearcoat system. The engine cylinders were bored to .01 over; new bearings, pistons, oil pump, and seals were installed, and the cylinder head was rebuilt. Dual SU carburetors and a new K&N air filter were also installed. The electrical system includes a rebuilt distributor, new spark plugs and spark plug wires. All belts and hoses are new. On the interior the seat frames were stripped to bare metal and refinished. The interior cushions, covers, carpeting, and upholstery are all new. The console and all gauges are new or rebuilt. Needless to say, this MG is ready for the road.
