Vehicle Description
This Stanley 740 touring car, chassis # 23650, is one of the most well known vehicles in Stanley circles and was the personal car of the late John Packard, who was known as one of the top restorers and reproducers of Stanley components within the steam car community. This Stanley 740 has been extensively and systematically refurbished mechanically. After acquiring this vehicle more than 18 years ago, Mr. Packard was determined to resolve any known system issues in order to make it a reliable, mechanically sound steam vehicle for touring. Mr. Packard completely rebuilt the burner assembly, rear axle assembly, engine, pumps and pit, as well as all of the brass automatics, checks, valves, and throttle. Chassis # 23650 is listed in the Sprague Registry and is a former AACA 1st Prize winner. John Packard possessed a high level of understanding with regard to the operational components and systems of Stanley steam cars and as such maintained a high reputation for his work within the Stanley steam community. Mr. Packard's precision machine worth within his signature rebuilds and reproductions are considered by many in the Stanley community to be the standard by which others are measured. Chassis # 23650, Mr. Packard's personal car, is considered by many in the Stanley world as a continuing example of his legacy. Vehicle is sold with a title.
