The 1961 Corvette has a special place in the collectors' heart for its unique appeal and features like the re-designed rear end, exhaust, also, being the last one of the 283 small block Chevy engine.
Our offer today is a fine example of this vintage, a virtually one-owner Vette since it was owned by the same enthusiast since 1966, accordingly, the actual miles are documented and now show 72K. In fact, everything that was ever done to the car in the last 50 years is substantiated by complete records that are avaialble from the seller.
The original color scheme is Roman Red with White coves and Red interior. It is addorned by an older paint job which is still in excellent condition. It came equipped with the optional high horsepower dual four barrel engine 283 rated at 270 HP. Sometime in 1967, the block was replaced with a correct looking 327, with the top of engine, that is intake manifold, dual carburetor setup and air intake being the original ones from the factory. The matching numbers bottom of the engine is not available anymore. Engine is cooled by an aftermarket Aluminum radiator, with thermostat controlled electric fans contributing to a cool and reliable ride. Other than that, the engine compartment is all stock with original generator, ignition shielding, intake, etc. and is nice detailed. Transmission is also the original one, the clutch was replaced some time ago. Shifter is now a Hurst, original one is available.
The interior is in very nice shape. Seat cover inserts were replaced with similar looking pads, but they do not seem to be correct for the year and, as of now, they will need some attention, so you may want to replace them with the right ones. Dash is all original, all gauges are in functioning order, wonderbar radio is functional.
Best part is that the car came with three tops! You will ask: How come? Well, first, we have the soft top which was recently powder-coated and is ready for a new soft top (yes, as of now, there is no soft top, but just the newly redone frame). Second, we have the optional hydraulic soft top, a rare option from the factory, with only 473 out of 10939 made. It is complete, not functional, but, we can certainly assist in getting it to work if needed (for a little extra). Third, we have the optional hard top, in excellent shape as you see in the pics.
Undercarriage is very clean. Wheels were upgaded to modern American Racing Aluminum ones accommodating bigger tires for a smoother ride. Original hubcaps are available.
