In 1995 Lexus threw its hat in the SUV ring with the introduction of the LX450, based on the Toyota J80 Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser, now in its 35th year, had such proven reliability and popularity on the international stage, it made perfect sense for Lexus, Toyota's luxury line sister, would develop a luxury full size SUV to compete with Range Rover. This came to fruition in 1998 when they introduce the LX470. Since the beginning of Lexus, they heavily marketed their "commitment to pursue perfection". Lexus got it right the first time with the LX470. Based on Toyotas J100 platform and body, Lexus took the already popular and well-appointed Land Cruiser to a whole new level. Their luxury, utility, quality and proven mechanical reliability made them and instant hit and the LX 470 could not hit the ground fast enough. Buyers found themselves on waiting lists and paying premiums. V8 power was introduced to the LX line, standard options such as leather, leather and wood steering wheel, heated seats, power seats, wood trim, adjustable ride height, front independent suspension, and air suspension were just a few items. Lexus' luxury was ready to take on all comers.
The homegrown, 1998 Lexus LX 470 offered here is a mind boggling, completely preserved example that demands your attention. The vehicle was ordered and delivered new at Harvey Lexus, in Grand Rapids, MI. The vehicle remained with the same family until sold to another local party in 2006. Since new until present day, this LX 470 received meticulous care and regimented service, resulting in an outstanding, unrestored, original example. The exterior features nearly all of its original gloss black paint that still shows excellent in all areas. The interior is outstanding including the original leather. This LX is the poster child of what happens when a quality vehicle receives consistent care and attention to maintenance schedules. The previous owners always kept this vehicle garaged when not in use, always kept it in a detailed state, and always dealer serviced with regimented oil changes using Mobil 1 from day one to present day. It is important to note that this LX 470 has had two, timing belt, water pump and thermostat services; the first 10/5/2006 at 98, 382 miles and the second 11/7/2013 at 186,696 miles. Both performed at Harvey Lexus of Grand Rapids, MI. Most recently, the air suspension and adjustable ride height just serviced and 4 new Michelin tires. Today at 219678 miles, this Lexus is outstanding cosmetically and spot on mechanically. This vehicle looks and performs as if it had 21000 miles. No squeaks, no rattles, no noises. The interior is immaculate, everything works including all power windows, power sliding moon roof, heated seats, heated mirrors, power seats with memory, power antenna, stereo, power adjustable steering column, etc; the exterior paint remains excellent original with the exception of the passenger side door after being scratched by a bicycle in the garage.
