For Sale: 1943 Military Misc in O'Fallon, Illinois

Vehicle Description

For sale in our St. Louis showroom is a WWII era 1943 M3 37MM anti-tank gun. These anti-tank guns were introduced in 1940 and were produced by the Watervilet Arsenal company. During their production run from 1940 to 1943, 18,702 of these guns were produced. It was the first dedicated anti-tank gun used by the United States forces on a mass production level. As with many anti-tank guns, the M3 was mostly utilized in an infantry support role and as an anti-personnel weapon. As the German tanks improved however, the M3 became less effective. It was eventually replaced by 1943 in the European and Mediterranean theaters by the more powerful 57MM M1 that was developed by the British. In the Japanese theater the M3 was utilized until the end of the war due to the fact of the Japanese tanks were more penetrable and less of a threat. These M3 guns were hooked to the back of a Willys Jeep and easily moved from place to place or battlefield to battlefield. This particular M3 37MM anti-tank gun is currently inoperable. In order to make this a live gun, the recoil system needs to be rebuilt and the barrel would need to be replaced for safety precautions. This M3 is offered individually, and would make a nice companion with the 1945 Willys Jeep stock #6829. To view this M3 37MM anti-tank gun in greater detail including HD pictures with the 45' Willys Jeep visit www.GatewayClassicCars.com or our St. Louis showroom.
