Vehicle Description

1940 Ford Custom Convertible

You have just stumbled across one of the coolest custom automobiles in the country. There really is no doubt that this car ranks up among the best modified classics out there. Every where you look on this 40 Ford Convertible you find a new one off feature that you have never seen before. The car was originally shown as a custom Black 40 that was built by Dick Dean and Jim "Bones" Noteboom in Oakland, California. After it was completed the car was featured in magazines and touted as one of the coolest 40 Fords out there. At the time people probably thought the car couldn't get any better....but they were wrong.

Within the past 5 years the car was completely transformed into practically an entirely new car. It was gone through from top to bottom with multiple components modified and changed to bring the car into the modern era of customs. The side profile of the car is something customizers dreams are made of. The chopped convertible hard top slopes downward and into the decklid almost seamlessly looking like one continuous piece. This fiberglass top was created specifically for this car so it fits perfectly. The long single piece of stainless trim runs the length of both sides adding the perfect accent to the body line. It is very clear that this custom wasn't a mash up of random ideas but a thought out, well planned, design.

So how did they get this ultimate look? Well it started with a real 40 convertible that was chopped 3 inches with the posts laid back 2.5 inches. The rear fenders were widened 2 inches and new custom steel running boards shaped to blend with the flare at the rear. The hood halves were joined and the decklid shaved. The license plate was frenched into the roll pan and the taillights lowered 2.5 inches and frenched into the fenders. There is more work in the body than a lot of cars get with the whole build! The body is in perfect shape and coated in a Spruce Green PPG that almost can appear Black in certain light. Out in the sun though that Green is shining beautifully with a lot of pearl and an extremely slick finish. Smoothed chrome bumpers are found in both front and rear with the rear being modified to have the dual exhaust recessed in. It was also shortened and lowered 2 inches. The grill has a beautiful shine and adds the perfect touch of chrome to the front along with the chrome headlight bezels. In back you will find the taillights that have the original appearance but are actually now LEDs, not bulbs. Custom painted to match vision side mirrors were added and just add to the overall smooth look. The glass is all in great shape and the car has a V Butt front windshield. Colorado Custom wheels are found under all four corners with 18 wheels up front and a 20 inch wheel in back.

Getting those wheels spinning is the 350 V8 sitting nicely under the hood. It has been modified with custom PMI Cadillac valve covers, a chrome air cleaner, and other billet and chrome components everywhere you look. It starts up well and delivers a great sound through the Magnaflow mufflers. Mated to the motor is a Turbo 350 automatic transmission which sends power back to the Ford 9 inch rear end with 3.20 gears.

If you thought the outside was special, just wait until you check out the inside. The Paul Atkins interior is a thing of beauty and on the inside is where you will find one of the coolest custom pieces you will ever see on any car anywhere. Every car builder knows a steering wheel can make or break a car and this 40 Ford has the coolest steering wheel ever created. It is completely 1 of a kind and was based off a Packard steering wheel that was fully modified and now utilizes a Ford horn button. When you get done with the car you could easily pop off the wheel and hang it on your wall, it is that nice. The upholstery work is all done in a Brown leather with custom inserts on the seats and side panels. A custom center console runs between the front bucket seats and into the rear seat. It provides additional storage as well as a cupholder. On the surface the dash has a vintage original look but look closely and you wills see that is not entirely true. It now has 40 Ford Dakota Digital gauges, inset AC/ vents and behind the original radio grill you will find the AC controls and AM/FM/CD/Ipod stereo. That amazing steering could just sit on anything so a custom tilt column was added that utilizes all billet levers. The trunk of the car has the same quality of work as the passenger compartment and offers plenty of storage space.

You couldn't come close to building this one of a kind custom for $196,000.00!
