1953 BUICK SPECIAL DELUXE COUPE #16834426. (Stock #3751.) It is rare to find a 1953 Buick with a 3-speed manual transmission complementing the acclaimed “Fireball” 8-cylinder engine. It would be almost impossible to find a car so equipped which has stayed with its original family for 62 years and been babied and driven sparingly that entire time. Ours is just such a car. Sold by Cleary Buick as a new car to a Buick enthusiast (he traded in his 1937 Buick when he purchased this car) in Cliffside Park, NJ on March 26, 1953, the car was well-optioned as documented on the original Cleary Buick sales invoice. Optional equipment included tinted glass to all windows (“Easy Eye Glass”), “Sonomatic” radio and antenna, heater and defroster, the “safety group” and the “accessory group,” “Foamtex” seat cushions and undercoating. The enthusiastic owner kept every document, manual and invoice relating to his new car and, although he actually only used the car for local errands and an occasional trip, he was amazingly thorough with its care. When he stopped driving completely in 1981, he gave the car--now having covered 20,000+ miles-- to his daughter whose husband adopted the car and its care. Since 30 years had passed and the car was showing some age, the second generation family had the car repainted in its original color, replaced some trim items and continued the light use which the car had enjoyed since new. Over the next 25 years, the car was driven fewer than 4000 additional miles and it survives today in remarkably fine condition. A true survivor which is still today accompanied by everything with which the car was delivered when new more than 60 years ago. 23,551 miles. $26,000.
