Bentley would introduce the Mark VI in 1946 and it was the first
post-war Rolls-Royce penned model. Power was derived from a newly
designed 4.3 litre, straight-6 cylinder engine with an aluminum
F-head that was good for 130bhp. Maximum ride comfort was achieved
by advanced coil springs up front and semi-elliptic rear springs in
back, while Rolls-Royce's state of the art hydraulic, servo
assisted braking system allowed the Mark VI to safely return to a
full stop quickly and effortlessly.
Most Mark VI production was centered on standard factory bodywork
built in Oxford. The factory cars were sculpted and trimmed with
such detail that the finished products stood toe to toe with the
best coach built examples. Of all Mark VI production, less than two
percent left the factory as just a complete chassis, as coach built
examples were available at the discretion of the most affluent
clientele.
Chassis number B267DZ was delivered to James Young Coachbuilders in
1948, at the request of the head of Allied Leather Industries in
the U.K. It left Young’s Bromley, Kent facility in January 1951,
wearing design number C23, a beautiful three position Drophead
coupe and carried number LXD 678 for the registration. While 209
Mark VI chassis bore James Young's coachwork, B267DZ is one of only
three built in this configuration, meaning that this Mark VI is as
rare as it is beautiful.
The example featured here is finished in stunning Mason Black with
a beautiful Caramel interior that is surrounded by magnificent
walnut woodwork throughout. It has been under meticulous care and
ownership since new. The vehicle’s provenance in Bentley circles is
well known and it was recently beautifully restored at concours
level standards by renowned marque specialists. Accompanying this
investment-grade Mark VI are copies of its original factory build
sheets and corresponding letters, making this example truly a
collector's dream! Ready to make an investment that you can
