For Sale: 1968 Oldsmobile 442 in Fredericksburg, Virginia

Vehicle Description

A Numbers-Matching 1968 Olds 442 Convertible The Olds 442 is one of the most sought-after classic pony/muscle cars and our ’68 convertible stands out for a number of reasons: • A true 442, not a clone • One of 5,142 convertibles built in 1968; • Finished in Dark Red; • 400 cid V-8 • Automatic transmission; • Air conditioning; For those of you who would like to decode the VIN, it is: 344678M365966 Paint and Chrome The quality of the color-change red paint makes this 442 a 10-footer. The chrome and stainless are generally nice. The body and underside of the car appear to be free of corrosion, other than surface rust. Interior The Black vinyl seat upholstery is in good condition with the exception of a repair to the back seat that is visible. Engine The engine in this 442 is stamped with the correct VIN suggesting that it is the car’s original engine. This 442 convertible is extremely quick whether from stop light to stop light or when it kicks down into passing gear. Despite its quickness, it is smooth-running and a pleasure to drive. Transmission/Rear/Suspension The car has an automatic transmission that shifts properly and, with the 400 cid engine, effortlessly. Sway bars help keep the torque under control and minimize wheel spin during acceleration. Tires, Brakes, Comfort and Safety Systems The car is equipped with four Goodyear white-letter radials: 225/70R14 tires mounted on factory Rally wheels. There is, of course, power steering and power front disc brakes to make driving—and stopping—effortless. The lights, horn, wipers and turn signals all work but the clock is still back on 1968 time. The car has factory air conditioning but some of the under-dash duct work has been removed (parts in trunk). There are seat belts for 6 people. The car’s convertible top was replaced and the top/glass are in good condition. The lowering/raising mechanism works properly. And Records/Receipts . . . The owner kept a loose-leaf binder with receipts of work done on the car dating back to 1996 with the meticulousness that displays his regard for this 442. The Oldsmobile Muscle Car That Defined an Era The 442 was a car that helped define the ‘60s, whether 442 stood for 4 barrel carburetor, 4-speed and dual exhaust or, for the automatic crowd, a 400 cubic inch engine, 4 barrel carb and dual exhausts—everyone wanted one, particularly a convertible. Now you can have that dream come true with an air conditioned convertible that still has its original engine and runs like it should. Not a show car but a solid example of this high performance Oldsmobile muscle car. FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL US AT:
