You already know that RK Motors Charlotte has a thing for Chevrolet's most famous muscle car. From their long list of options and stacks of documentation to their hundreds of cubic inches of big block bliss, we've brought you some of the most mind-blowing, potent and flat-out brutal Chevelles the market has ever seen! And from the NASCAR-inspired 300 we sold last month to the rare Carolina Blue coupe that's currently parked in our showroom, we continue to be your number one source for anything that starts with the letters C, H, E and V. After all, what's not to love about a classic that defines the dominant era of Chevrolet ingenuity, showcases an unparalleled era in American culture and represents the best era of Detroit's manufacturing might? Absolutely nothing; and that's why this clean drop-top, with its 350 HP L79, Muncie 4-speed and classy red on red aesthetics, is the perfect piece for the muscle car fan who enjoys hitting the road OR the show! Note: this is NOT a documented, numbers matching L79 Chevelle Convertible. Think $150K for one of those!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Fully sorted and ready to cruise, this authentic code 138 drop-top recently benefitted from a thorough, frame-off restoration. Under the car's correct Regal Red 2-stage, an incredibly straight fuselage features solid panels that, with the exception of their recent massage, have led a quiet, drama-free existence. By the end of that massage, those panels featured better-than-factory alignment and, when opened and closed, sounded firm and functioned exceptionally well. And today, this glossy Chevy is one fantastic looking hot rod that parks just as well as it plays!

For 1965, the top-of-the-line Malibu SS utilized a classy appearance and unique trim pieces to distinguish itself from Chevrolet's working class 300 and mid-level Malibu offerings. At the front of this clean classic, a correct grille centers a small Chevrolet crest and correct T3 headlights between fresh "CHEVROLET" lettering, a guarded bumper and amber parking lamps. At the sides of the car, cross-flag "327" emblems and small "Malibu SS" scripts hint at an upscale personality while traditional door handles and bowtie-branded mirrors perfectly complement straight wheel lips and textured rocker guards. At the top of the car, a finned hood leads the eye to fresh stainless frames, which trace like-new glass under correct White vinyl. And at the back of the car, a black-trimmed valence hangs a second round of "CHEVROLET" lettering between clean taillights, a third "Malibu SS" script, clear reverse lamps and a second guarded bumper.

ENGINE

Motivating this real-deal Super Sport is an exclusive L79 V8 that, according to the factory, twists stout 11 to 1 compression into 350 Corvette-matching horsepower. Savvy collectors will quickly locate the 327's correct 3782870 casting number. Casual observers will be quick to notice the mill's L79-exclusive polished, twin-snorkel air cleaner. And everyone will start to vibe when air and fuel flow from a big Holley carburetor in to a hot Winters intake that's framed by high-flow cylinder heads! That air/fuel mixture meets spark thanks to Packard Radio TVRS cables, which crawl around polished, 327-branded valve covers on their way to a correct points distributor. Spent gases fall in to old school cast iron exhaust manifolds. There's a vintage radiator that joins a Chevelle-spec alternator, a Kleer View water bottle and a Delco-topped battery to round out the car's first-rate ancillaries. Details like polished fuel lines, a polished oil filler, an AC fuel filter and a correct GM water neck create a distinct sense of authenticity. And, when it comes to keeping up appearances, the tagged engine compartment is clean, attractive and ready to roll, all the way from its Chevy Orange block to its glossy black fenders!

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Throw this Chevelle on a lift and you'll find rust-free floorpans that hang a seamless layer of Satin Black paint above a straight and solid chassis. That chassis rolls on a traditional double A-arm front and 4-link rear suspension, which has been fully rebuilt and carefully coated in gloss black pigment. Behind the stout small block, a correct Muncie 4-speed twists a tough 10-bolt axle. Efficient turns and confident stops are the product of GM-spec drums and a Saginaw steering box. Exhaust rumbles through big, aluminized tubes to throaty turbo mufflers. Power flows through 14-inch steelies, which spin 7.75 BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls around red-detailed Super Sport discs. And all of the car's lines, hoses, brackets and fasteners, completely replaced at the time of restoration, display very little weathering.

INTERIOR

Pop this A-Body's solid doors and you'll find a correct Medium Red interior that's a true thing of beauty. In the middle of that cockpit, sharp Strato bucket seats are in excellent shape and show little to no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a Regal Red dash hangs standard telemetry between a fresh pad, gorgeous chrome trim and a modern, direct-fit radio. At the base of that dash, like-new carpet centers thick rubber floor mats on a chrome shifter and V-shaped console. At the sides of that carpet, pliable door panels hang bright handles and simple armrests between pristine stainless, dent-free sills and small Chevrolet crests. In front of the driver, a satin, speed-drilled steering wheel spins a faux Rosewood rim around a red, white and blue horn button. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk hides a fresh mat beneath a full-size tire.

OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING ACCESSORIES

A vintage Motorola Solid State radio

In summary, this top-notch Chevy represents 'muscle motoring' at its very finest, combining a drop-top driving experience with stunning design, a clean restoration and no-excuses performance. Hit the backroads... Take it to a show... Put it in the Independence Day parade... Whatever you elect to do with this cool Chevelle, it's sure to be the centerpiece of traffic, the focal point of your garage and, most importantly, the car you most look forward to being seen in!
