The classic car world is full of fun creations with wild paint schemes, extreme drivetrains and artful interiors. While those cars are awesome to look at, 10-minute start-up procedures and blind hunts for kill switches and accessory controls frustrate even the most enthusiastic gearhead. Anyone that's spent time around the collector car hobby will agree that there's truly something special about owning a well-built cruiser that's comfortable and easy to live with. And this superb Chevy 3100 is just that - a completely functional vehicle that's wrapped in killer hot rod styling. With vintage power, an engaging 3-speed and modern audio, this truck was built with the driver in mind. And if you're tired of superficial classics that emphasize appearance over practicality, it's the real deal retro you've been looking for!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The beneficiary of a recent restoration, this super cool pickup reflects a striking combination of Candy Apple and Metallic Silver 2-stage. Beneath that brilliant pigment, a straight body hangs solid panels that pair good function with good alignment. At the front of that fuselage, a heavy chrome grille rides between a fresh chrome bumper, clean halogen headlights and a monochromatic header crest. Behind that crest, a chrome-trimmed hood leads the eye to sealed glass that's seated behind bright frames and thin windshield wipers. At the sides of those wipers, a dressed up spare combines with factory door handles, a traditional fuel filler and a small mirror to create a simple, attractive profile. At the center of that profile, a spectacular wood bed is dressed in stainless skid strips. And at the back of that bed, a 2-tone tailgate reflects sleeved chains, polished tail lamps and a second chrome bumper.

ENGINE

Hoist this Chevy's domed hood and you'll find a 235 cubic inch, date-correct 6-cylinder that wears a correct "F" assembly stamp. The foundation for that mill is a correct 3835911 block that's been dressed in red paint and bolted to a correct 3835913 head. A "Chevrolet" stamped valve cover wears a matching coat of pigment under a bright breather. The red continues to a traditional points distributor, which sequences spark through 7mm Belden Premium wires. Fuel gets atomized by a single Rochester carburetor, which hides color-keyed componentry under a trick air cleaner. Beneath that carb, a rust-free exhaust manifold frames a color-keyed intake. At the side of those tubes, a modern alternator spins a small belt, which is looped around a red fan and red water pump. In front of that pump, a painted radiator keeps an eye on temperature. And everything, from the truck's pliable hoses and tagged Delco-Remy starter to its fresh fuel lines and Metallic Silver engine bay, appears to be 100% road-ready.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Crawling under this vivid bowtie reveals a body-matched chassis that, for the most part, appears weather-free. Power meets the pavement through a color-keyed Muncie 3-speed, which is tied to a color-keyed, 10-bolt axle. Correct leaf springs and big drum brakes occupy all four corners of the chassis, mixing rugged road prowess with firm and solid stops. An aluminized, single-pipe exhaust system, which is wired to a large muffler, runs the entire length of the truck. And everything rolls on reversed chrome wheels, which twist 225/60R15 Falken Ziex between mirrored smoothie hubcaps and color-keyed wheel wells.

INTERIOR

Just as colorful as its body, this 3100's showy interior is guaranteed to generate smiles. At the front of the cockpit, a Candy Apple dash hangs classy telemetry beside a Retrosound Apache head unit. In front of that dash, a 2-tone bench looks wide enough to accommodate three. At the bottom of that seat, a simple floor mat frames color-keyed foot pedals. Opposite that mat, a silver headliner founds a polished mirror between red sun visors. At the sides of the passengers, Candy Apple doors hang Metallic Silver frames above 2-tone panels, color-keyed armrests and correct chrome handles. And in front of the driver, a wood-rimmed steering wheel spins satin spokes and a blue bowtie centerpiece around a factory shifter.
