For Sale: 1966 Jaguar XKE in Fairmont City, Illinois

Vehicle Description

Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer a gorgeous 1966 Jaguar XKE roadster. Jaguar certainly made their mark on the automotive industry when they introduced the E-Type. Introduced in 1961, the E-Type Jaguar had all of the cutting edge technology. Right out of the box the car was good for a top speed over 150 mph and 0-60 mph in less than 7 seconds. Technological advances included monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, and independent front and rear suspension. One area that Jaguar really hit the nail on the head was the styling. E-types are often referred to as some of the most beautiful vehicles ever made. This particular example is a Series 1 which are considered to be the most desirable and most beautiful. This run from 1961-1967 is known for its covered headlights. The glass headlight covers frame the front "mouth" opening on either side. This opening is smaller on the Series 1 cars in comparison to the later cars. Other distinguishing features are the rear lights mounted above the bumpers and the exhaust exiting beneath the number plate in the rear. The beating heart of this '66 model is the infamous 4.2 Liter Inline 6 cylinder. The Inline 6 is equipped with triple SU carburetors and is good for an output of 265 horsepower and 283 lb ft of torque. These figures were highly impressive for the time, especially considering the lightweight construction kept the weight of a roadster under 3,000 pounds. The 4.2 is mated up to a 4 speed manual all synchromesh gearbox. The vehicle rides on independent suspension all around and features very unique inboard rear brakes. Power disc brakes are standard in all four corners. This particular XKE has been privately owned by the same enthusiast since 1980. The car is mostly original with the exception of one re-spray in its original Primrose Yellow. The engine and transmission are original to this car and have been serviced regularly. The engine and transmission were overhauled in the mid 1980s and have very few miles since. The odometer shows 55,634 original miles. The car has typical wear and tear as an un-restored car is expected to have, but overall is in wonderful shape given its age. The interior retains its original upholstery and shows beautifully. The equipment all works as it should down to the original radio. The trunk is completely solid, and houses the proper spare tire and tool kit. The car is wearing an older repaint which shows checking. The body is incredibly solid and it is clear this car was always stored indoors. The car was recently tuned up and checked over to be sure it is road ready. It started easily, runs very well, and has good power. The car can be driven and enjoyed as is, or with some paint work, could be an excellent investment. With prices souring on high quality E-types, there's no question these are desirable roadsters. You can view this E-Type in greater detail in our St. Louis showroom, or at www.GatewayClassicCars.com. Please call 618-271-3000 or email [email protected] with any questions. Stay tuned.
