SORRY, JUST SOLD! 1935 Ford Model 48 standard 5-window Resto-Mod coupe. It was ford's reputation of reliability that set them so far ahead in popularity in the 30's but, it was also because they were one of the very first to mass produce the dependable V8 when the other auto manufacturers were mired in the past.... still offering a straight six cylinder as the only engine choice. So, in our opinion, it's not just about better design, when choosing to build a Resto-Mod or hot rod, but the ford models longtime reputation for speed and appearance is why they are the first choice when choosing a candidate for upgrading. Few Ford enthusiasts would question Ford motorcars claim in 1935 that "the new ford had greater beauty, greater comfort and greater safety" then any previous models....despite the fact, the beloved '34 was the 'Bonnie & Clyde car". Sales figures back that claim up because, by years end, the 1935 outsold the 1934 models by an amazing 262,580 cars!!! Beginning in 1934, ford decided to drop the '4 banger' and offer only the V8. This gave them a speedy, simple, affordable car, in a huge range of body-styles, to fit any budget. Fact is, this standard coupe only cost $520 brand spanking 'new' so, it was a great buy to boot. By 1935, it gained a lower, sleeker , more streamlined appearance and lost the v-based grille. The fender outlines were more rounded and the louvered hood gained 3 horizontal bright chrome strips. The windshield was designed to appear 'more sloped' which resulted in making the car look 'faster', and ford saw fit to drop the clunky cowl lights which helped 'clean-up' the overall design. 22 options were offered: including a rumble seat, twin tail lights , radio , heater, clock, dual wipers, grille guard, bumper guards, and seat covers. So, in the end.. the result was ford was America's no. 1 selling car in 1935. In fact, it even paced the Indianapolis 500 race that year. To boot, ford celebrated yet, another hallmark by actually producing the 2 millionth V8 during 1935. Fifteen different versions of the model 48 were offered with the standard 2-door, like this one, being the most popular coupe in sales. The 3 window only sold 31,318 copies and are sought out by some but, personally, I found them difficult to see out of, especially with lane changes in those puny mirrors. So, when your building or buying a car to run in 50 mph traffic you have to pre-think the usefulness / end result and cover all your bases. It's not always about 'limited build'. The 1935's 5-windows were roomier, had plenty of interior space for comfort (and girth) without that feeling of 'driving a cave', trunk plenty capabilities (without the rumble seat) and lots of room for something besides '85-90' HP under the hood. Our car bennifited from a total restoration and 'build' by Pratt Institute graduate and renown Corvette specialist Mario Dischiavi. Disciavi has a foundation of a 50 years reputation of being one of the Best Hot Rod and restoration specialist on the east coast. His corvettes have repeatedly won Duntov, Bloomington Gold & N.C.R.S top flight awards w/ his street rods, winning every major award. The result was a restoration that is truly 'breathtaking'. This build could only be described as 'over the top' in quality. It includes: the finest materials and workmanship including a new 'total coast engineering' frame (with certificate), complete new mustang front coil chassis with leaf spring rear by HI tech, custom 'vintage' air conditioning package with Lasco heater & remote, optional total coast 'power' front rack, rear sway bar, power disc brakes, stainless brake lines, 9" ford rear (3.25 gears), Chevrolet 350 crate motor & carb, new gm 700r overdrive transmission w/ Lokar overdrive display, on the automatic floor shift, custom dual exhaust w/ headers, custom balanced driveshaft, custom radiator, flaming river 12 volt wiring harness, flaming river steering column and steering wheel, plus another $8242.19 in additional custom parts. The full leather interior incl. Headliner replaced the original mohair yet, retained that 'old-time' pattern & look. Adding a custom Autosound 200 watt 'SecretAudio SST' system w/6 CD changer and tilt wheel helps snap one back to reality & current times, original spoke wheels were replaced by Vintique deep dish wheels & ford V8 logo chrome caps, (5) Coker wide whitewall radial tires with exterior spare, as original. The expert craftsmanship provided by Dischiavi rods and restorations was performed on an a Florida 'all Henry Ford', and a rust-free body. We added the Trippe foglights. The total package restored was just over $100,000 (receipts). It was a Florida, bare metal, re-paint in base coat clear coat, finished in Rolls Royce Ebony Black with Dark Burgundy Leather interior. There are folks who build one of these supercharged, with blowers and multiple carburated hot rod- but, this car was designed for an adult to drive long distances without 'buying' a gas station or owning stock in an Oil CO. Truly custom built to be driven and enjoyed with ice-cold air and working heat, automatic gearbox w/ overdrive and hi-way gears for high speed and low revs...... kind of an 'Adult Resto-Mod' and proud of it.
