For Sale: 2000 Plymouth Prowler in Ft Worth, Texas

Vehicle Description

Looking at today's hyper-conservative automotive climate, it seems astounding that a major automaker like Chrysler would not only conceive of something like this 2000 Plymouth Prowler, but actually build it! Intended to help the automaker expand its knowledge of aluminum-intensive manufacturing, the Prowler became an instant icon that successfully blended hot-rodding traditions with modern day usability. Unlike any 1934 Ford roadster out there, this is literally a rod that can be driven to work every day without compromise.

Prowler Black was by far the most popular color in 2000. With only 6481 original miles (not a misprint), you can be assured that this is just about as close to a new Prowler as you're going to find anywhere, and while low-mileage examples aren't exactly rare, they are the Prowler you want to own for posterity. Obviously it's been well-maintained and exercised as needed, but the paint remains deep and glossy and looks maybe two years old, not 15. As a halo vehicle, Chrysler knew the Prowler had to be exceptional in every way, so the finish got extra attention at the factory to really make it stand out when the car was seen in public, which is always an event. All the other standard Prowler features, from the cycle-like front fenders to the sleek flush-mounted taillights are, of course, in pristine condition. In the same way, the exposed aluminum suspension components are still as-cast, the black rubber fender guards are unmarked, and the finish has never seen rain or snow, as you'd expect.

The black leather interior might just be the most highly functional hot rod interior ever designed. Supportive seats with Prowler logos embroidered in their backs, center-mounted instruments in a body-colored gauge panel, and dual airbags mean this is no home-built machine. As an OEM build, things like the A/C and stereo are not just adequate, but remarkably powerful, and you also get cruise control, power windows and locks, and a bunch of other convenience items that standard rods can only dream about. There are a few stretch marks on the driver's seat, but otherwise everything remains in as-new condition. The snug-fitting black canvas top folds effortlessly and disappears completely beneath a hard shell, and includes a heated rear window. Also in the tradition of great rods, there's not much of a trunk, but you probably won't even notice or care.

Performance is impressive thanks to a 3.5 liter V6 making 253 horsepower, or about three times the power of a 1934 Ford flathead V8. It's linked to a 4-speed automatic transaxle mounted integral with the rear axle, so handling is impressive, not clumsy like most rods. The engine is unmodified and completely original, with all the factory markings intact. The suspension is fully independent so it rides quite well for a sporty roadster, and massive disc brakes with ABS provide serious stopping power. Contributing to the Prowler's outrageous look are the optional chrome wheels, measuring 17x7.5 up front and a massive 20x10 out back and wearing 225/40/17 and 295/40/20 Goodyears, respectively.

If you're looking for a Prowler to put away for posterity, you can scarcely do better than this glossy black example. Even if you're just looking for one to enjoy, this is like buying a brand new one off the showroom floor. Call today!
