1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III Convertible in St. Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

Very rare Lincoln Continental Mark III finished in Claret Metallic with nearly all available factory options!  Represents one of only 3,048 convertibles produced in 1958, and very recently rebuilt mechanically to be a very strong performer for the driver enthusiast!  Shows only 57,414 miles on the odometer! After the overwhelming success with the Continental Mark II from showrooms, the top brass from Lincoln opted to eliminate the Continental division and combine it with the Lincoln brand as their top-of-the-line model.  This may have been in large part due to the fact the Mark II was so expensive, and lost money on every single unit produced.  The newly constructed Mark III in 1958 would be equally unique in many ways.  It would be the largest unibody car ever constructed in automotive history using a 131” wheelbase, and the longest American-built convertible for mass consumption.  It would also have a tilted rear breezeway window on all models, including the convertible, that could be retracted for a true open car feel even with the top up! We are very excited to offer this wonderfully original 1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III Convertible finished in very rare, and factory correct Claret Metallic over original Black & White Leather interior!  Powering this massive convertible is its original 430ci V8 producing 375 horsepower mated to the 3-speed Turbo-Drive automatic transmission and 3.07 Direct-Power limited slip rear axle ratio!  This flagship model came extremely well equipped with factory options including power windows, power vent windows, power operated convertible top, electric door locks, 6-way power seat, automatic headlight dimmer, Town & Country AM Radio with dual power antennas(working), Auto-Lube chassis lubrication system, power steering, power brakes, remote outside mirror, front seat belts, tinted window glass, interior courtesy lights, glove box light, fender skirts, and new Coker Classic 235/75R14 radial wide whitewall tires! This rust free example hails from a prominent Florida collection before heading to another large collection in Louisiana in 2010 where it was treated to a proper mechanical restoration to be used again with complete confidence.  This included pulling the engine and transmission together for an overhaul of the transmission and complete reseal of the engine with all new gaskets, seals, and new carburetor.  The gas tank was replaced with new fuel pump & sender, all new exhaust system installed, overhaul of total brake system with upgraded front brakes to disc for added stopping confidence for this near 5,000lb vehicle, along with new radiator, wiper motor, and fully rebuild suspension & steering system!  We feel confident the paint has only been refinished one time in the distant past.  It runs wonderfully and can cruise the highway at speeds over 70mph smooth and assured!  It stops equally confident!  We would add that this example was originally equipped with air conditioning that has since been deactivated with the absence of the compressor and bracket.  It would have been a fully loaded, high option convertible example from the factory and will continue to be a superb investment for any Lincoln collector!  Please feel welcome to call with questions or schedule a chance to review in person.
