This 1987 El Camino SS if for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. Many people think that the Ranchero was the first "Coupe Utilityâ?, the class that these types of vehicles are considered. Actually the class was created long before the Ranchero way back in 1934. Brought to life due to a note from a farmer's wife requesting "a vehicle to go to church in on Sunday and take the pigs to the market on Monday". The line was very successful until the war broke out and would not reappear until the Ranchero in 1957. The El Camino has a story of its own beginning life in 1959 but only for two years, reappearing in 1964 as an all new "utility" model. The performance oriented version, or SS, would not appear until 1966 when GM decided to add the 375 HP 396 to the lineup. The El Camino would see a total of 5 generations or body styles with the 5th and last one running from 1978-1987. This beauty is one of those elusive last year conversion built SS models that have seen a recent surge in popularity. The dark blue paint is correct and looks very nice with the light blue striping on the bottom complimenting it extremely well. Under the hood is the original 305 that are known for their reliability and with less than 65 thousand miles this V8 is sure to have a ton more life left in it. The original 3 speed automatic shifts great with no hesitation and firm positive up shifts giving the truck/car a great feel. With the clean AUTCHECK showing no accidents and only 4 owners with the original owner having it until 2007 it has definitely lived a pampered life. This especially evident when you open the door and the super clean interior reveals itself. The split bench upfront is very clean with fold away armrest only adding to the creature comforts. The ice cold AC will pretty much freeze you out as soon as it comes to life. All in all if you have been looking for an 80's era car that is entering into that next generation collectible but want something a little different this is a good one to consider.
