Rally Red with Black Interior
Introduced for the 1963 model year, the C2 generation of Corvette was an instant hit. The car carried over the excellent engines from1962, but the remainder of the car was new, with now iconic styling and independent rear suspension. In 1963 and 1964, all cars were equipped with 327cid engines. In 1965, the Corvette received disc brakes all around for the first time, addressing a longtime area of criticism of the car, particularly considering its significant power ratings. In 1966 the side vents on the coupe disappeared. Backup lights were now a standard item and were incorporated into the existing tail lights. Holley carburetors which were on some optional engines before are now standard on all engines. Seats were updated to decrease wear and tear. The knock off wheels was still available although the center cap now had a dull finish. Headrests were optional for the first time and the interior door pulls are bright metal. The headliner of the Corvette is now foam and vinyl, an upgrade from the fiberboard headliner previously used.
This particular car is equipped with C60 Air Conditioning, U69 AM/FM radio, M-21 4-speed manual close ratio transmission, G81 positraction rear axle, A01 soft ray tinted glass all, L79 327ci 350hp engine, N40 Power Steering, All factory correct components including the jack, jack tools, seat belts, washer system, shifter, shielding, air cleaner, gas door assembly, and T-3 headlights. This car has the A. O. Smith frame number A2377. The coupe is documented with the three previous owner’s names and Chevrolet Owner Protection Plan “Protect-O-Plate”. The engine has never been removed from the car.
The Corvette is an original 72,000 mile car with one repaint of Rally Red in 1980, a color change from the original code 986 Silver Peal. The car presents extremely well. The paintwork has a good shine, the chrome and stainless are good, along with the original window glass. The front carpet and headliner have been replaced. The dash pads, instruments, switches, and door panels are original in good condition.
The engine compartment is original and presents very well. The underside is original and also presents very well with a new complete Gardner exhaust system.
The GM official production date was February 4, 1966 and the original delivery dealer was Shapard Chevrolet Company of Tullahoma, Tennessee (dealer code 437 in zone 31) per the official NCRS/GM shipping data report (SDR) and the Chevrolet Owner Protection Plan “Protect-O-Plate”. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a documented rare original L79 Air Conditioned coupe disc brake Corvette. This coupe is in “good original condition” and is nicely equipped and beautifully presented.
