Description

For sale in our St. Louis showroom is a 1955 Ford Thunderbird. This iconic Thunderbird is painted in a bright red and offers beautiful black and white vinyl interior. This car is ready to win some trophies! Under the hood is the original 292 CID V8 engine and 3-spd manual w/overdrive transmission. There are 91,780 miles showing but they are undocumented. Judging by the condition, we think believe them to be original. Option include: AM/FM radio, manual convertible top, hub caps, power steering, power brakes, power seats, power windows, telescopic wheel, vinyl interior, wide white wall radial tires and painted fender skirts. This wonderful convertible has been very well cared for and garage kept. The cars paint is recent and cost 8,000 dollars. Needless to say, it shows well. The Ford Thunderbird began life in February 1953 in direct response to Chevrolets new sports car, the Corvette, which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before. Under rapid development, the Thunderbird went from idea to prototype in about a year, being unveiled to the public at the Detroit Auto Show on February 20, 1954. Like the Corvette, the Thunderbird had a two-seat coupe/convertible layout. Production of the Thunderbird began later on in 1954 on September 9 with the car beginning sales as a 1955 model on October 22, 1954. Though sharing some design characteristics with other Fords of the time, such as single, circular headlamps and tail lamps and modest tailfins, the Thunderbird was sleeker and more athletic in shape, and had features like a faux hood scoop and a 150 mph (240 km/h) speedometer hinting a higher performance nature that other Fords didnt possess. Here is your chance to own a piece of history and enjoy it too! To view the car in greater detail, including an HD video, please visit www.gatewayclassiccars.com or our St. Louis showroom.
