Description

To be OFFERED AT AUCTION at Auctions America's California event, July 31-2, 2014.Estimate:$ 85,000 - $ 95,000 Introduced in 1968, the third-generation Corvette was heavily inspired by the rakish Mako Shark II concept of 1965, which was styled under the direction of the highly-respected Bill Mitchell and debuted at the Paris Auto Show. While the new Corvette was a dramatic stylistic departure from the previous generation, it offered customers the same optional engine choices. One of the most powerful variants was the L68 427 cubic inch Tri-Power engine, with a 400-hp rating and a massive 460 ft-lbs of torque. Despite such immense output, the L68 Corvette was surprisingly easy to maintain with its hydraulic valvetrain. Out of total production of nearly 39,000 units, just 2,072 L68 Corvettes, such as this car, were built for 1969, at a premium of $326 over the base price. This L68-powered 1969 Corvette convertible is fresh off of a complete and meticulous frame-off restoration that was executed over a two year period; the car has only been driven 300 miles since this process was completed. Looking spectacular in Fathom Green with Saddle interior, this exciting Corvette has the desirable four-speed manual transmission, removable accessory hardtop, front fender louver insert trims, AM/FM radio, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, speed warning indicator, Rally wheels, redline tires; power brakes and windows. Retractable, hidden headlights and a vacuum-assisted door conceal the windshield wipers, both adding to the sleekness and seamlessness of the design. The undercarriage is presented in a manner consistent with the rest of the car, as one would expect given the obvious external quality of this popular model.
