Description

To be OFFERED AT AUCTION at Auctions America's California event, July 31-2, 2014.Estimate:$ 40,000 - $ 60,000 The popular Austin-Healey enjoyed a 15-year run from 1953 to the final 3000 MK III of 1968. These wonderful British sports cars were most aspired to by thousands of red-blooded enthusiasts. They consistently demonstrated performance, charisma, exquisite styling and a first-class competition pedigree; all at a price within reach. Restored in a manner to capture the spirit of Donald Healey's racing efforts at the famous Le Mans 24-hours and also the renowned URX 727 car that Pat Moss (sister of Sir Stirling Moss) drove to victory in the Liege-Rome-Liege rally in September 1960 for the first overall win for the Austin-Healey marque, this exciting green with black interior example has many performance and appearance updates. The Healey runs with its original 3,000-cc inline six-cylinder engine that has been beefed up with Carrillo aluminum rods, JE pistons and performance rings, precision timing chain, Elgin camshaft, high-volume oil pump and oil cooler, engine torque plate, large intake and exhaust valves, aluminum flywheel, heavy-duty clutch and triple Weber DCOE carburetors. The engine is also balanced and has racing headers with stainless steel baffles. The current owner says the car sounds like a Cobra. Other desirable highlights on this popular and respected Austin-Healey model include a custom Mike Lempert steering wheel, four-wheel disc brakes, knock-off hubs, wire wheels finished in black, dual piston master cylinder, custom fabricated aluminum fuel cell, Brooklands-style windscreens, dual racing mirrors, manual transmission, front bumper delete and much more on this true one-of-a-kind 3000 roadster.
