Description

This is a beautifully restored 1952 MG TD and represents a multi-year restoration of love and originality. This is a collector’s car, without a doubt. It is the highest quality you can ask for in a TD. This vehicle was completely dismantled and reworked. All new or rebuilt wiring, suspension, new leather interior/carpet, new trim, entire wood replaced, refinished or new chrome, and complete rebuild of drive line retaining original engine, original 4 Speed manual transmission/rear end, generator, SU carbs, starter, clutch assembly: All completely rebuild to factory stock condition. The tach and ammeter were restored to original; speedo exchanged for an original w/ original pointer (Jaegar) ; oil pressure exchanged for an original dual gage (Jeager), clock was reface only.(West Valley Auto Electronics, Reseda, CA.) All these instruments were installed into a custom made Black Walnut dash. The missing wiper motor was purchased on a business trip to London from MG parts supplier Brown & Gammons (new –still in box) for around $300+.
The body was stripped to bare metal during the frame-up restoration and all of the chrome and trim has been replaced or restored. Some body components were bought and replaced. The shine is something the dusty factory in 1952 couldn't imagine and the bodywork is impressively straight and beautifully assembled with a lot more care. . The fit and finish is excellent in every body panel as are the shut lines on the doors and bonnet. The undercarriage is as remarkable as the topside. Every detail and finish is restored to be as it was original/ new. Paint: Ivory- Ditzler; Leather: Red. The car’s color scheme: red painted radiator slats, red painted wheels was chosen from the “special” MGTD and road test on the cover of Motor Trend magazine, February 1953 (have an original copy). The key service restoration providers are the best in central Texas for Classic cars: Prime: Classic Car Center (Carroll Pimpler), Round Rock TX. , Jeff’s Resturrections, (Jeff Snyder) Taylor, TX , Richard Wright, Leander TX, and Ron Shimek Auto, Austin TX.
The car has new Moss Motors side curtain kit (Tan canvas) new –Still in box ($1295). Have the original bow and wood for the top, just need the fabric. Car never driven in the rain—mostly to car meets, shows and Sunday afternoons. Always kept in AC/heated garage.
The car recently (3/14) was serviced and mechanically “refreshed” by Ron Shimek: Clean, adjust, and rebuild carburetors, repack wheel bearings, replace brake shoes, fluid and cylinders, replace rear axle seal, check/adjust main mechanical specs and road test (over $2200).(these cars need occasional TLC.)
This classic MG TD has undergone a full mechanical and cosmetic restoration and is ready to show, drive, and enjoy.
