1965 Thunderbird Convertible--JUST REDUCED!
This, the last body style of the 4-passenger Thunderbird convertibles is a particularly nice example:
• Fully Restored
• 390 V-8/solid lifters
• Swing-away steering wheel
• Like-new convertible top
• Reclining passenger seat
A Nice Example!
• Paint and Chrome
This Thunderbird underwent a very nice color-change repaint that looks as new. It has a deep shine and strong color.
The chrome is in very good condition and nicely compliments the paint.
The body and underside of the car currently appears to be free of rust and corrosion.
The seat upholstery is black and appears original to the car. It is in good condition with one repair done to the passenger seat. The carpeting is black. The door panels are in very good condition with a repair made to the driver’s door panel.
The instrument cluster and the rest of the interior looks very nice.
• Convertible Top
The black convertible top looks brand new and the rear window is as clear as glass. The top stows properly into the trunk with the push of a button on the dash. There is no boot to snap/unsnap so going from closed to open air driving is truly a snap.
The car’s 390 cid V-8 was rebuilt with a mild cam and solid lifters. It starts and runs at it should. It has more than enough power keep up with not only the muscle cars of its era but the luxury modern vehicles of today. The car also has a new exhaust system.
The transmission is Ford’s 3-speed Cruise-a-matic automatic and it shifts properly. The automatic transmission makes this car is a pleasure to drive both around town and on longer trips.
• Comfort and Safety Systems
The bucket seats make this an extremely comfortable four-passenger luxury convertible. The front passenger seat reclines for those extended drives.
It is also a car where everything works—horn, lights, wipers, radio—even the clock works. And the sequential tail lights are a trademark item of the marque.
There are seat belts, front and rear, for added passenger safety.
The swing-away steering wheel is both a novelty but also a great comfort item when entering or exiting the car.
A Very Nice Example of one of Ford’s Most Popular 4-passenger Thunderbirds
Finding a largely original example of the very popular “square bird” series is increasingly difficult. Nice examples of these cars are highly in demand and therefore represent not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. And if there was ever a convertible that was equally at home at the golf course as it was on the freeways, it was the ’65 Thunderbird. Remember: you can’t take your CDs or stocks/bonds for a weekend drive or to a car show, and even if they may be blue chips, they will never take the blue ribbon or gold trophy—or put a grin on your face.
