Description

I acquired this bike from a friend & repeat customer in London, England who is an avid motorcycle collector and owns a very exclusive restaurant. It was kept on display in his restaurant before being brokered to Yesterday's Antique Motorcycles in Holland who took care of it's final tune-up, crating, and shipping to us. It has had a total rebuild of the engine, transmission, clutch, brakes, electrical system, and suspension. While apart, the frame was powder coated in correct Indian Red and the tank & fenders resprayed correctly. The gold pinstriping was done by hand and is under the clear coat as are the Indian 4 logos. The wheels were fitted with new rims and respoked before new tires were installed. A new correct leather saddle was fitted.

These are the very first Indian 4s; produced after Indian acquired Ace, and they are known as Indian-Aces. The Ace Motorcycle Company made only 4-cylinder bikes and was started by William Henderson after he sold the Henderson Motorcycle Company to Excelsior. Wanting to enter the 4-cylinder market, Indian bought Ace in 1927 after Henderson's death, and made improvements to the engine, frame, and front suspension before applying the Indian 4 name on the tank. Indian 4s were one of the top premium luxury bikes of their day and, especially during the depression years, were the province of only very affluent sportsmen.

After receiving & uncrating, Bob Bancroft of Bancroft Motorworks went over this bike to double ensure that there were no issues. The bike starts with one or two kicks and settles into a smooth idle. It runs perfectly but is much too nice, much too rare, and much too valuable to use as a rider. This has been a cost-no-object professional restoration and every aspect has been expertly addressed. These motorcycles have been rapidly appreciating in value in recent years and when auctioned draw much attention, commanding six figure prices. This particular bike is literally flawless; it is perfect, truly the best of the best.
