Humber made well built cars for the type of buyer who wanted (and was prepared to pay for) traditional British manufacturing qualities which combined good strong reliable engineering with understated but refined coachwork combined with a high standard of trim and fittings. This car has recently been the subject of considerable expenditure which included a new hood, new leather upholstery and trim (apart from the original front seat cushion which was deliberately retained) and a very smart new paint job. Its very spacious Humber Ltd open tourer body has wind-up windows which disappear rather neatly beneath hinged covers when fully lowered. Under the bonnet the presentation is workmanlike rather than show winning but everything seems to function well. The six cylinder 2,100cc inlet over exhaust valve engine with its twin choke Zenith carburettor and seven bearing crankshaft starts very readily and provides the level of power and smoothness you would expect from a vintage six, furthermore its in-unit four speed and reverse gearbox, good steering and strong brakes make it an enjoyable car to drive and it has been used for some extended touring by its present owner. Should you be so inclined I understand it is quite an easy task to fit an overdrive unit which would make it even more enjoyable for long distance open road motoring. The car comes with original versions of its 16/50 Owners Instruction Book and handbooks for the Zenith carburettor and the Autovac fuel pump. The file also includes substantial invoices for complete rewiring of the car, fitting of new wheel bearings, a new fuel tank, an Autovac service as well as retrimming and repainting the coachwork. All in all it is a very nice example of a good quality vintage touring car of the sort which is becoming harder to find these days as they have either fallen by the wayside, been converted into specials or been so over restored that you dare not take them out in the rain. It is also sensibly priced so it won’t break the bank!
