This charming bike is one of the very last Wolverhampton built Sunbeams, registered in April 1937 shortly before the company was taken over by Associated Motor Cycles. It is the 350cc Model 8 Sports and carries its original registration mark VY 9476 (not transferable). Acquired in 'barn find' condition by a local enthusiast, the bike has been completely restored and has covered 1000 miles since it returned to the road in 2011. The frame was powder coated and the tank and mudguards finished in two-pack paint. The tank has been lined in gold leaf. It has not been over restored so still carries a pleasing patina. The engine has been completely rebuilt, including a rebore using a Royal Enfield piston. New main and big end bearings were fittedalong with new valves. It has new clutch springs and Surflex clutch plates. To complete the work new chains were sourced, the brakes were relined and new tyres fitted. Currently presented in sports trim, we have the original tool box, battery carrier, magdyno and headlight (unrestored) should the new owner prefer the touring spec. The bike is an easy starter and has a crackling exhaust note through the fish tail can. It runs on Castrol R and has been filling our showroom with that unmistakeable odour! The Burman gear box works well. It is a very usable example from one of the quality makers of the pre-war era.
