Description

In the last 2 years we have been able to buy a small amount of Healey Silverstones. It is always hard to find these cars because of the small amount of cars which have been produced by the Healey factory. Only 105 original examples have been made by the Healey company. The car we have for sale now is just finished from a nut and bolt restoration at THE most well known Healey Silverstone specialist. The result of the restoration is very impressive. When we bought the Healey, the car was in need of a restoration. It was for a longer time in a barn and the condition was far from a driving car. We decided to bring the car away to do a complete nut and bolt/body-off restoration. Without looking at any expenses, this Silverstone has been restored to a very high standard. The engine has been rebuilt, even as the gearbox, the rear and front axles, the brakes, the interior, actually everything. History about the Healey Silverstone: Donald Healey, a British rally racing driver and car manufacturer, founded the company bearing his name in 1945. Healey had started out racing, and then, turned to car manufacturing. He was a Technical Chief at Triumph, and also, had helped Riley build some of their proven race winning engines. At first, The Donald Healey Motor Company manufactured box-section chassis. Riley supplied the engines and the rear axles. The Riley engine Healey used was 2.443cc. Healey then decided to make a car truly made for sports car racing. In 1949, Healey introduced the Silverstone. Virtually a single seat styled grand prix car with fenders. The chassis nose was rounded off and fell steeply at the front. Interestingly, behind the vertical bar grill set the cars two headlights. The tires wear neatly covered by cycle fenders. One of the other interesting design aspects to the Silverstone was Healeys placement of the spare tire. All together, the Healey Silverstone was a fantastic looking reall grand prix racing car. The Silverstone experienced great success on the race track, especially in club events. As far as we were able to find out, this Healey Silverstone has been delivered in blue. The Silverstone was available when it was new in red, cream, blue and green. As we like originality we decided to bring the car back in blue and now it is finished, we have to say that it is according to us the best color on a Silverstone. In 1950, this Silverstone was delivered to a gentlemen named J Godbeer, passing to its second owner, J E Newcombe in 1962. This gentlemen owned the Silverstone for four years and sold it in 1968 to another gentlemen from Chelmsford, named mister Harold. 6 persons owned the Silverstone in between 1968 and 1986 when mister Johnstone bought the car. He kept it till 2012 when we were able to buy the car as it was at that time in need of a full restoration. The Healey Silverstone is a unique car. Only 105 examples are ever made which makes the car not cheap but nevertheless, it is 1 of the few cars left with this shape which is still reasonable priced. Comparing the looks with the driving capabilities and the eligibility for the events, it might be clear that a Silverstone must be a good car for investment. As these cars were made for both racing and driving on a daily base, it is possible to enter at most classic racing events throughout. The Mille Miglia for example is a possibility even as Goodwood.
