Incredible frame-off restoration to show standards. Loaded with options, 352 V8, and continental kit. The best 1959 Ford convertible in existence?

The work was done by Jerry Miller of Jerry’s Classic Cars in Springdale, Arkansas, who many Ford fans will know is the foremost expert on 1957-59 Fords. The entire car was stripped to a bare shell and rebuilt from there using as many NOS and original equipment parts as possible to make it quite authentic. The intent was to build the ultimate 1959 Galaxie convertible, and they have clearly succeeded with this spectacular example. The paint is beautifully finished in a period-correct two-tone Raven Black and Torch Red combination that will look just as brilliant in another 60 years. As with any ‘50s car, the chrome was clearly a significant restoration expense, but we can see no area where corners might have been cut; the tiny star-shaped patterns on the grille, the oversized parking light pods on the front bumper, and the jet-inspired taillight housings are all in excellent condition, ready to show. Accessories include the continental kit that adds even more length and the chrome fender skirts that add even more sparkle to an already overwhelming presentation.

Tri-tone leather upholstery is not only beautiful to look at, but the artistry present in every detail is a tribute to the wonderful excesses of the 1950s. The seats are full of fresh stuffing, so they’re firm and supportive and you sit tall behind the wheel for a commanding view. You will note that this car is heavily optioned, including factory A/C, power windows, AM radio with rear speaker, and a power top, all of which are fully functional. The instruments and dash are a brilliant combination of colors and textures that takes some acclimation, but once you’re comfortable with the big Ford, it’s a genuine pleasure to drive. The black canvas convertible top is beautifully installed with no sags or wrinkles and the rear window is so clean and crystal clear that from certain angles it looks like it has gone missing entirely! And the massive trunk is detailed correctly, from the reproduction mat to a matching full-sized spare tire with jack assembly.

Although experts will note that the door tag says this car was originally powered by a 292 cubic inch Y-block V8, in their quest to build the ultimate Galaxie, it is now powered by a 352 cubic inch mill making a not-insubstantial 300 horsepower. The engine bay is dominated by the big, round air cleaner and A/C compressor, but you’ll find that the highly-detailed machine looks spectacular in any setting. The Ford Blue finish paint on the engine itself is as nice as many car’s bodywork and wherever possible, correct fittings, materials, and finishes were used. Fresh wiring, rebuilt accessories, and a fully rebuilt engine all ensure that this car is not only ready for the show field, but for long-distance touring. The transmission is a Ford-O-Matic automatic backed by a 9-inch rear full of 3.10 gears, so it is an easy and effortless highway cruiser. There’s a fresh gas tank out back, a reproduction exhaust system with just the right burble from the twin tailpipes, and original 14-inch steel wheels with beautifully restored hubcaps wear wide whitewall radials for a traditional look and modern handling.

Is this the ultimate 1959 Ford Galaxie convertible? If I were a betting man, I would not bet against it in a show. In terms of appeal, it’s every bit a match for its bowtie competition at a very competitive price. If you’re a fan of the Blue Oval in the ‘50s, few cars will capture your attention like this.
