Description

If you want to combine classic Jeep looks with extra performance and usability then this very smart vehicle hides a secret under the bonnet. It is a 1962 Hotchkiss M201, the French version of the famous wartime Jeep, built under licence and the chosen light vehicle of the French army right up until 1981. As standard they were built with either the original Willys petrol engine that dates back to the 1920s, or towards the end, with Peugeot diesel power. On being demobbed our Jeep was purchased by a German Mercedes specialist and fitted with the legendary 2.4 litre diesel that powered millions of M-B cars and vans in the seventies and eighties. It was a superbly executed conversion that gives the Jeep far superior performance, both on and off road. In addition to the standard two and four-wheel drive and high/low ratios it has a rear diff lock that will permit some serious mud plugging. From Germany the Jeep spent some time on Guernsey before coming to the UK in 2009. The MOT certificates indicate around 2000 kilometres have been covered since and it is curently tested to the end of June 2014. It is of course classed as a historic vehicle and therefore tax exempt. It is in very good condition structurally and cosmetically and it has clearly been maintained to a very high standard. It comes with five nearly new tyres and all new canvas throughout from John and Mary Worthing (this includes the doors which are not fitted for the photographs) and a brand new heavy duty battery. Ancilliary equipment includes a spade and axe set, siren (very loud!), fire extinguisher and jerry can. It even has a working and effective heater. Should the new owner want to go for the full military look we can supply a set of American army stencils. The Jeep drives exceptionally well and is capable of sustained cruising speeds that are beyond most of its kind. Turn off the tarmac and it will handle most conditions with ease. The perfect all-rounder?
